THQ today announced the next WWE game coming this Fall to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. The Smackdown vs. RAW franchise is officially retired, and the new game is simply known as: WWE ’12.
WWE ’12 will be available November 22nd in the US, and November 25th in the UK. So far, 4 superstars are confirmed, although obviously everyone already knew they would be in: John Cena, Randy Orton (cover star), The Miz, and making his WWE games debut… Alberto Del Rio (complete with Ricardo Rodriguez entrance!) Justin Roberts as the ring announcer, and Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole as the broadcasters.
The tagline is “Bigger. Badder. Better.” Based on what little is known (officially) about the game so far, we can expect a completely redesigned gameplay mechanism that puts the face buttons back in charge and does away with analog grapple. WWE ’12 will feature smarter AI, wake-taunts, dynamic comeback combos, and the most authentic WWE presentation ever seen in a video game. You can work over certain body parts bringing in a level of strategy; slow a fast guy like Mysterio or Evan Bourne down by working on their legs.
The engine has seemingly been completely overhauled with new a animation system, shaders, and something called “Predator technology”. Reading the IGN exlusive hands-on preview, it sounds like the game has been streamlined to be a faster experience not all that different than what was seen in All Stars. Superstars, unless worked over, won’t stay down long.
