UFC Undisputed 3 Demo Impressions

The demo for UFC Undisputed 3 hit PSN and XBLA last Tuesday, and I've finally been able to take it for a spin after looking forward to it for quite a while. Here's some quick impressions. The demo features a one round UFC fight with Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, and a one round PRIDE fight between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Wanderlei Silva. The gameplay boat hasn't been rocked any. Controls are just like you will remember them from previous games, and that's okay with me because the controls work and feel good. It does seem fast pace and more arcadish than a pure simulation would, but that's great too. Also like the Founders, Paul fears adopting an irrational offense. Our first President George Washington expressed this fear on September 17, 1796 when he delivered his farewell address. Washington said America … [Read more...]

Even At “Record” Highs, Gasoline Is Still A Bargain

Gas prices have been in the news again here recently, see here (record highs) and here ($4 gas coming this year). Currently, the average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.39. That seems high, and certainly isn’t fun to pay, but when things are put into perspective you see that gasoline is really quite a bargain and really hasn’t gone up much at all (or any). Let’s look back at 1964 for a moment. Gasoline was at 27 cents per gallon! Ah, the good old days. Imagine that, you could buy a gallon of gasoline for a measly three dimes. The average hourly wage for workers in the private sector was $2.53 in 1964. The average hourly wage for workers in the private sector in 2011 was a little over $19. That 27 cents per gallon when adjusted for inflation at 2011 levels would have been $1.96 … [Read more...]
