UPDATE (4/29/13): Ubisoft has officially announced the release date for Watch_Dogs, it’s November 19, 2013. More details and a world premiere gameplay trailer here.
Pushed for a date by a user, the Watch Dogs Twitter said: “The game will be released in 2013 and will be on released on PC and consoles.”
The tweet, as you’ll see, isn’t specific on console platforms, fueling even more speculation the game will be a next-gen game.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has already confirmed, though, it’ll launch on PS3 and 360. On a next-gen release, he took a “we’ll see” stance. http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/05/ubisoft-watch-dogs-coming-to-ps3-360/
Watch Dogs was announced as arguably the biggest surprise of a show and is all but likely to come out in best of E3 lists from now until forever.
We already knew that Ubisoft’s impressive demo of the game was running on a high-end PC, but it’s good to get confirmation that it’s coming our way – and hopefully day and date with the consoles. It’s possible that the PC is listed first because the ‘consoles’ being referred to are Microsoft and Sony’s next generation offerings. Nonetheless, it’s nice to get a proper confirmation at this early stage.
It was revealed earlier in the week that the second character seen in the reveal demo was in fact another player. “Online is in the DNA of Watch Dogs” said executive producer Dominic Guay.
I wish it was more specific than this. Heck, it could be December 2013 at this rate but we’ll see. Hopefully they’ll give us something more specific down the road before too long.
It’s disappointing in one sense: We all want to play this thing like yesterday but on the other hand: I don’t want them to rush this gem out especially if it’s flirting with outright being innovative in some ways as the current existing media hints at. Cook it full in the oven, do it right, do it well.
The wait is going to be sheer agony. Thankfully there are plenty of other great games coming out for the rest of 2012 to “ease the pain.”
