Check out the new teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, or if you’re like me you’ll prefer “Star Trek 2: Into Darkess.” This teaser trailer is of course leading up to the full trailer that will be released next week.
The teaser paints a grim and destructive path of vengeance by the villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch and some really great voice over work from Cumberbatch. Like the narration of a Rockstar Games trailer, Cumberbatch’s narration in this teaser will itself make you want to see the film.
Here’s the synopsis for Into Darkness:
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
I’m not a Star Trek fan, but I like what J.J. Abrams has done with the franchise. I like his 2009 Star Trek film, and things like this teaser only reinforce that I’ll probably like Into Darkness as well.
Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theaters on May 17, 2013. That’s shaping up to be a busy stretch for fans of comic book movies and sci-fi, as Iron Man 3 hits on May 3rd and Man of Steel releases on June 14th. That’s a pretty good Spring line up.
