I have had friends declare this a hilarious movie, and friends declare this a horrible movie. Let’s be real for a second, the creator is Seth MacFarlane, who has brought us Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show. Why would you expect the greatest comedy of all time from a guy who brought us continuously repeated jokes since 1998? The fact is this is Seth’s film debut and he went with something familiar instead of taking a risk, which in my opinion was a smart move, wade into the water, don’t jump in.
The film is Family Guy humor come to life on film, and that is all it was intended to be. The jokes are gross, and crude. The story is flimsy, but for the love of Peter Griffin, we are talking about a film about a Teddy Bear who comes to life…don’t over-think it. Mark Wahlberg does a great job of acting next to a guy in a blue suit while Seth spits his lines out.
This really and truly is a film for people who are not snobs, who are looking for a good laugh, and it succeeds. It is by no means a comedy classic, but it fulfills your Saturday night drunken fix for a movie to watch. If you are looking for a cheap laugh while you are drinking with buddies, this movie will take care of it for you. I honestly got everything I expected from this movie, and will not bash it. It was a good start for Seth.
