SEC Gameday Preview 11/15 – Week 12: #1 Mississippi State Battles #5 Alabama

November 15, 2014 // 0 Comments

It’s hard to believe that, including today, there’s only three weeks of regular season games left on the schedule. It has been a fast, exciting season. It’s the 12th week of the 2014 season, but it is the first week of this SEC Gameday Preview series here on Vortex Effect. There probably won’t be another one the rest of this season. This is a trial run of what we hope to do on a weekly basis (during the season obviously) next year. So let us know what you think, and if you have a problem with it. We are primarily a video game, wrestling, and entertainment site, so [...]

THE College Football Game to Watch: Week Three – Alabama vs. Texas A&M

September 13, 2013 // 0 Comments

Normally when we do this, we focus on three games. This week is a little different though. Brian is unable to join us this week, and as a result I’m not going to be writing about a game either. The spotlight this week is firmly on the much anticipated rematch from last November; #1 Alabama traveling to #6 Texas A&M. That’s really the only big game of the week. Sure, there are other games to watch: Nebraska against UCLA, Wisconsin against Arizona State, Vanderbilt against South Carolina, Ole Miss against Texas, Mississippi State taking on Auburn, and Oregon is going to get [...]

College Football Games to Watch: Week Two

September 6, 2013 // 1 Comment

The first week of college football is in the books and hey it’s already that time again. The second week provides some first games for some teams, the first challenge for others, and for a few teams there second challenge. Last week, Georgia lost a heart breaker to Clemson. It’s just more fuel to fire that Aaron Murray can’t win the big one, or simply a game against a ranked team. Murray came back for his senior season to win an SEC Championship and a National Championship. His SEC aspirations are still very much alive, for now, but lose again and Georgia can just about kiss [...]

College Football Games To Watch: Week One

August 29, 2013 // 0 Comments

A new season of college football begins this evening. It’s the final year of the BCS and everyone outside of the SEC fanbase wants to see the SEC national championship winning streak end this year. Alabama has won the BCS championship the last two years, and three of the last four years. Can Alabama become the first team of the BCS era to win three championships in a row? Will anyone be able to stop the Alabama dynasty or simply prevent an SEC team from winning the last BCS championship if Alabama doesn’t make it to the game? We’ll find out the answers to those questions [...]

TVE Top Ten: Calender changes, Tide continues to roll

October 3, 2012 // 2 Comments

Another week of college football down, more separation between contenders and pretenders.  Not a lot of shake up in the top ten, same faces, but a few changed places. Alabama 5-0 – The Tide survived Ole Miss last week and will now have a week off before going to Missouri next week Oregon 5-0 – The Ducks pinball offense continues to fire on all cylinders but they may need a little extra defensive help this week against Washington. Florida State 5-0 – The Seminoles got past South Florida last week and return to conference play at NC State this week.  I don’t [...]

TVE NCAA Top Ten Week Four – Roll Damn Tide Yet Again

September 26, 2012 // 3 Comments

Another week, another two members of the top ten gone bye-bye.  Who’s still around?  Let’s get to it. Alabama 4-0 – The Tide rolled to another victory this past weekend, 40-7 over the FAU Owls.  This week Bama hosts Ole Miss.  The Rebels have not won in Tuscaloosa since 1988. LSU 4-0 – The Tigers played sluggish last Saturday at Auburn in a 12-10 victory.  LSU will not find the sledding so tough this week when they welcome Towson to Death Valley.  This should most likely be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. Oregon 4-0 – The Ducks raced past Arizona [...]

TVE NCAA Football Poll Week Three – Alabama Tops Again

September 19, 2012 // 2 Comments

Hello all and welcome back to The Vortex Effect Top Ten.  Apologies for the disappearing act last week, time got away from me.  If it makes any difference, nothing changed for last week, but we had some changes this week with USC losing and Michigan State got smacked around.  Both teams dropped out, so we have some new arrivals.  So therefore, let’s get to it. 1) Alabama 3-0 – The Tide hammered SEC West rival Arkansas 52-0 last Saturday and will host Florida Atlantic this week.  Crazy things happen in college football, but I expect Nick Saban and his understudies to be right [...]

TVE NCAA Football Poll Week One – Alabama Tops List

September 5, 2012 // 0 Comments

Hello again football fans and welcome back to the VE Top 10 college football poll. Doing things a little different this year. First, as you may have noticed, no pre-season poll. Second, the voting panel consists of, well, me. So if you disagree, it’s all my fault. Without further adieu, let’s get to it. 1. Alabama (1-0) – The Tide are the defending National Champions and absolutely crushed an overrated outfit from Michigan down in Jerry’s World, Texas. Denard Robinson was weighed, measured and found wanting, while Bama did just about anything they wanted to. Up next for [...]

LSU Kicks Tyrann Mathieu Off Team

August 10, 2012 // 0 Comments

Tyrann Mathieu, Heisman trophy finalist last year, has been kicked off the number one ranked LSU football team, just a few weeks before the season begins. Les Miles didn’t give the specific reason for why Mathieu was kicked off the team, but the “Honeybadger” was suspended for a game last year for failing a drug test. Miles did drop a hint though, stating that Mathieu is a good guy with a “behavior issue.” Mathieu was a big part of LSU’s success on defense and special teams last year scoring four touchdowns, intercepting two passes, and causing six fumbles [...]
