SEC Gameday Preview 11/15 – Week 12: #1 Mississippi State Battles #5 Alabama

It's hard to believe that, including today, there's only three weeks of regular season games left on the schedule. It has been a fast, exciting season. It's the 12th week of the 2014 season, but it is the first week of this SEC Gameday Preview series here on Vortex Effect. There probably won't be another one the rest of this season. This is a trial run of what we hope to do on a weekly basis (during the season obviously) next year. So let us know what you think, and if you have a problem with it. We are primarily a video game, wrestling, and entertainment site, so sports isn't something we do a lot of here (at least not recently). It should be an exciting day in the SEC, but then it almost always is. We have two games between top 15 teams, and each is very important for all four teams: #1 … [Read more...]

THE College Football Game to Watch: Week Three – Alabama vs. Texas A&M

Normally when we do this, we focus on three games. This week is a little different though. Brian is unable to join us this week, and as a result I'm not going to be writing about a game either. The spotlight this week is firmly on the much anticipated rematch from last November; #1 Alabama traveling to #6 Texas A&M. That's really the only big game of the week. Sure, there are other games to watch: Nebraska against UCLA, Wisconsin against Arizona State, Vanderbilt against South Carolina, Ole Miss against Texas, Mississippi State taking on Auburn, and Oregon is going to get their win against an SEC team when they take on Tennessee. Quite a few of those games should be very good. Will Ole Miss avenge their loss to Texas a year ago and embarrass the Longhorns as BYU did last week, or will … [Read more...]

College Football Games to Watch: Week Two

The first week of college football is in the books and hey it's already that time again. The second week provides some first games for some teams, the first challenge for others, and for a few teams there second challenge. Last week, Georgia lost a heart breaker to Clemson. It's just more fuel to fire that Aaron Murray can't win the big one, or simply a game against a ranked team. Murray came back for his senior season to win an SEC Championship and a National Championship. His SEC aspirations are still very much alive, for now, but lose again and Georgia can just about kiss any hope of national championship goodbye. Unfortunately, things aren't going to get better for Murray and the Bulldogs this week as the #6 South Carolina Gamecocks come strutting into Athens. The Gamecock offense … [Read more...]

College Football Games To Watch: Week One

A new season of college football begins this evening. It's the final year of the BCS and everyone outside of the SEC fanbase wants to see the SEC national championship winning streak end this year. Alabama has won the BCS championship the last two years, and three of the last four years. Can Alabama become the first team of the BCS era to win three championships in a row? Will anyone be able to stop the Alabama dynasty or simply prevent an SEC team from winning the last BCS championship if Alabama doesn't make it to the game? We'll find out the answers to those questions over the course of the next few months. Today we kick off the new season with the return of our annual Games To Watch column. Joining me for this column is Reviews Editor Brian "Sandman" Hall and the author of "The … [Read more...]
