Some sad news today wrestling fans as we’ve lost another legend in the industry. TMZ is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper passed away today at his home at the age of 61 from cardiac arrest. Hot Rod wasn’t just a wrestler though, as he either starred in or had a role in a lot of films and TV shows with his most famous being 1988’s They Live. Piper is survived by his wife and four kids. As of this post, WWE has yet to post anything to their website. On behalf of everyone here at Vortex Effect, our condolences go out to the family and friends of Roddy Piper. [...]

WWE RAW 7/27/15 Preview: Owens Unleashed

July 27, 2015 // 0 Comments

Tonight WWE RAW rolls in to Oklahoma City, and as always WWE hasn’t announced anything for tonight’s show… because that would just make too much sense. I know I harp on that all the time, but I really don’t understand why they don’t announce stuff days or a week in advance. It’s a three hour show, you should have some idea of what you’re doing well in advance and use it to generate interest and create hype. Basic stuff. At any rate, here’s what WWE’s website is asking about tonight’s RAW: How will The Authority maintain order this [...]

In Defense Of Hulk Hogan

July 24, 2015 // 2 Comments

You know something stupid has happened when I’m having to defend Hulk Hogan of all people. I don’t say that because Hogan has been some standard of values, because the guy is just a horrible person. He’s a fraud, a joke, a delusional and pathological lair, an adulterer, and so on and so on. He’s also now a big racist, apparently. WWE has terminated the contract of Hulk Hogan, removing him as a judge on Tough Enough and thoroughly scrubbing their website of him and removing all of his merchandise. They’re stopping projects with licensing involving Hogan, and [...]

Quick Daily Review #168: It’s Good to be The King: The Jerry Lawler Story (2015)

July 21, 2015 // 0 Comments

It’s Good to be The King: The Jerry Lawler Story (2015) WWE’s DVD specialty is the biographical documentary. I’ve reviewed a couple of them on here before. I have been a wrestling fan all of my life, which I will allow you all to judge me for as much as you desire. At this point it is just something I’m afraid I’m stuck with. Anyway, I enjoy wrestling documentaries, and when it comes to high quality productions, WWE makes the best you will find in terms of production value. That said, there is a drawback with WWE productions. Since they became the Walmart of wrestling and [...]

WWE RAW 7/13/15 Preview: Nearing The Battleground

July 13, 2015 // 1 Comment

Tonight, World Wrestling Entertainment heads to Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia for RAW just six days before WWE Battleground. As usual, WWE hasn’t announced any matches for tonight’s show (because that would make too much sense). But these are the five questions WWE is asking heading into tonight’s show: What does Lesnar want more? (Rollins’ title or Rollins’ suffering) Is Roman Reigns more afraid of Bray Wyatt than he’s willing to admit? How will Sheamus respond to The Viper? Can anyone stop Team Bella? Is Owens rethinking his Cena strategy? RAW airs [...]

Possible Spoilers For Tonight’s RAW

July 13, 2015 // 0 Comments

PWInsider.com reports that NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Charlotte are backstage at RAW, and are slated to appear on both RAW and Smackdown. It would seem the two talented Diva’s are coming up to stand with Paige in her war against Team Bella. Smith’s Sentiment: I selfishly want both Banks and Charlotte to stay in NXT. If I thought Vince McMahon would allow anything decent to become of the women’s division then I’d feel differently. I just don’t want to see these two having bad matches against women who can’t wrestle and losing in two minutes. [...]

WWE Announces New Match for Sunday’s Battleground Event

July 13, 2015 // 0 Comments

Ahead of tonight’s RAW, WWE has officially announced that Randy Orton will take on Sheamus at WWE Battleground this Sunday on WWE Network and PPV. Randy Orton will look to settle the score with Mr. Money in the Bank, Sheamus, when they go head-to-head at WWE Battleground in a match announced today on WWE’s Twitter account. Tensions between both Superstars have been high since WWE Money in the Bank when the two crossed paths multiple times during the event’s eponymous Ladder Match — a match that Sheamus ultimately won. Tempers still flared the next night on Raw when The Viper [...]
