Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata Passes Away at 55

Nintendo released the following statement today passing along the news of the death of CEO Satoru Iwata: Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth. Mr. Iwata got his start in the games industry as a programmer at HAL Laboratory back in the 80s, where he helped create iconic Nintendo titles like Kirby, Earthbound, and Balloon Fight. The ever popular world of Skylanders continues to expand this Fall with the release of the new entry Skylanders: Trap Team. This time around, developers Toys for Bob are expanding on their portal machine toys-to-life mechanic by reversing that processing. A special new portal, called Traptanium Portal, allows you to trap villains in the game and bring the digital characters to “life in the real world.” Now of course it’s one thing to take a toy, put it on a portal, and have it come to life in the video game.
