Review: Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order (PC [Reviewed], PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360) Developer: MachineGames Publisher: Bethesda Softworks Genre(s): First Person Shooter Released: May 20, 2014 MSRB Rating: M - Mature I am always happy to welcome a new Wolfenstein game.  The previous Wolfenstein game from 2009 was slagged on certain quarters.  I would contend it was a bit underrated and overlooked. I want to state upfront that this is game that merits a strong Mature rating most notably for some grim sequences and at least one very notable torture sequence that in my opinion was excessive and over the top.   You always have the choice to skip cutscenes so it's not worth a federal case but I figured I would mention it as a courtesy heads up for people going into this game. This game pulls no … [Read more...]

Console Version of The Elder Scrolls Online Delayed Six Months

Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online released last month for PC, and it was scheduled to release in June for both PS4 and Xbox One. That isn't going to happen now due problems Bethesda is facing with getting their systems integrated with the PlayStation and Xbox networks. They reckon they'll need around six months to get it ready, so don't expect to play Elder Scrolls Online on your console anytime soon unfortunately. Here's a statement released by Bethesda this morning: We’ve been grateful to our fans for the wonderful response to our recent launch of The Elder Scrolls Online for PC/Mac, but we know many of you are eagerly waiting to play the game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are … [Read more...]

Wolfenstein: The New Order Trailer Shows Off Stealth & Mayhem Gameplay

Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order got a new trailer today that shows off one area of the game played twice: stealthily and all guns firing mayhem. Which way will you play when the game releases on May 20th? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o9Xi4l7jy0 Wolfenstein: The New Order is coming to PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on May 20th. Pre-ordering the game from any retailer will include a beta code for DOOM. Smith's Sentiment: The stealth looks pretty good here. I'll probably try and play it that way first as much as possible, although there's certainly something to be said for the chaotic approach as well. … [Read more...]

Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Collector’s Edition Announced for $100, Does Not Include Game

I think it's safe to say collector's editions for video games have finally gone overboard. Today, Bethesda announced Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition. Limited to just 5,000 copies, the $100 collector's edition includes everything you see below: So what all is that? Panzerhund Edition comes in a vintage footlocker-style box (measuring approximately 20" x 10.5" x 8.5") with a stamped number plate right above the antiqued clasp. Inside, you'll find a classified folder affixed to the lid containing 11 classified documents (an assortment of maps, case files, and even an x-ray). The bulk of the footlocker houses an 8" articulated Panzerhund statue. Made of high quality vinyl material (PVC and ABS) the statue is hand painted, includes a base, and strikes a surprisingly menacing … [Read more...]

Nazi’s Rule the World in this Wolfenstein: The New Order E3 Trailer

We're a few days away from E3, so you know what that means... it's time for E3 trailers. Bethesda released the E3 trailer for Wolfenstein: The New Order this morning, and it looks pretty darn good. I say that as someone who has never been into the franchise. The New Order definitely has my attention though. Check out the trailer below. Wolfenstein: The New Order is scheduled to release later this year and it'll be coming to PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. … [Read more...]

The Backlog Volume 15 – Dishonored

Platform: PS3[reviewed], Xbox 360, PC Publisher: Bethesda Softworks Developer: Arkane Studios Genre(s): Action-adventure, Stealth Released: October 9, 2012 ESRB Rating: M - Mature Welcome back once again boys and girls, and welcome back to The Backlog. Time has not been my friend lately, thus limiting my gaming time the last couple of weeks and thus delaying my review for this installment of The Backlog. Today we will be looking into the latest offering from Bethesda and Arkane Studios, Dishonored. Dishonored is a first person, action-adventure game that can be played in a stealth fashion, a straight forward attacking style, or a combination there of. For the purposes of my play through for the review, I employed the combo of the stealth and attacking style. I wanted to … [Read more...]

Review: Dishonored (PC)

Dishonored (PC [Reviewed], Playstation 3, Xbox 360) Developer: Arkane Studios Publisher: Bethesda Genre(s): First Person RPG/FPS Sim Released: October 9, 2012 ESRB Rating: M – Mature Arkane Studios consists of veterans from the Deus Ex series, Half life series, Thief games and has been 3 years in the making and I'm happy to report the wait was well worth it. It would have been huge shock and arguably one of the biggest letdowns in gaming in years had it not been given the pedigree of the talent that created this game. I’m a huge fan of these kinds of games and I'm thrilled to see them returning. Last year we had the stellar Deus Ex Human Revolution which I reviewed highly here and if you haven't played it yet you need to stop reading this and buy it immediately. Now this year we … [Read more...]

Choose Your Path to Revenge In This Interactive Dishonored Trailer

It's the week of the interactive trailer for games that come out October 9th apparently. Earlier this week we had the epic XCOM interactive trailer that basically served as a demo tutorial, and today Bethesda has released an interactive trailer for Dishonored titled "Path to Revenge." There's a branch in this trailer that allows for a non-violent playthrough, which is how I want to actually play the game.  The trailer is best played in full screen. Dishonored is arriving in stores this coming Tuesday, October 9th, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. … [Read more...]

Dishonored Goes Gold!

Today is a joyous day for the fine folks at Arkane Studios and Bethesda, as the publisher announced today on their blog that Dishonored has gone gold. After more than three years of development, 30+ versions of the game (accounting for different languages, countries, and platforms) are ready for release. Huge congrats to Arkane’s Lyon and Austin offices, as well as everyone else involved with the project. We also send along our congratulations to the team who have been working on the game for the past three years. We'll know in 11 days how good the game is, but everything we've seen, read, and heard indicates that it should be great and really something special. It certainly has that potential. Click on over to the Bethesda Blog to find out how you can win a sign copy of the game and … [Read more...]
