Daily Venom #6: Giving Impact Wrestling One More Chance

June 26, 2015 // 1 Comment

Wednesday night I did something I haven’t done a very long time, and that is tune into Impact Wrestling. From the beginning at that, although probably because I watched Ring of Honor and just decided to stick around. To be perfectly honest, I expected to last about 30 minutes. I mainly wanted to see how bad it was, because it was pretty horrible the last time I wrote them off. To my surprise, the show was actually enjoyable. Looks like I picked a good night to watch too since it was one of their “live” episodes and had a lot of surprises. In case you missed it, and [...]

Daily Venom #2: Luke Smith and Bungie Must Think We’re All Idiots

June 22, 2015 // 0 Comments

Destiny’s third expansion, and it’s first real big one, The Taken King, releases September 15th. There are a few ways to acquire The Taken King DLC. The first, for those of us who own Destiny, The Dark Below, and House of Wolves is to purchase the Digital Edition for $40. The Taken King is also being sold in retail stores for $60, and will include the base game and the first two expansions… quite a deal for new players. Then there’s the Collector’s Edition, available in both physical and digital form. Despite the physical version having more stuff, like a cool [...]

Daily Venom #1: An Introduction

June 21, 2015 // 1 Comment

Back in 2004, when I first started writing on the Internet under the screen name “Stinger,” I had a little secondary column series called Deadly Venom. It didn’t last long due to a number of reasons, but since I used the name Stinger I always liked the name of the series. So in 2010 I brought Deadly Venom back to replace my more popular column series, A View From the Rafters. When I wrote for, I used the column title Deadly Venom. Even here on Vortex Effect, I’ve posted a few articles under than title banner. It started as a wrestling column, but over [...]

Deadly Venom: Uber Entertainment Isn’t Doing Anything Wrong By Selling An Early Access Title in Stores

July 1, 2014 // 0 Comments

Once again someone has done something in the games industry that has other people going on and on about how horrible it is and how it’ll destroy the industry. That someone is Uber Entertainment and Nordic Games and the something is Planetary Annihilation being sold in stores in a box as an Early Access title (at least in Europe). Planetary Annihilation is a real time strategy game on the PC. In 2012, Uber Entertainment went on Kickstarter to try and get funding for their game (after all, most of the developers had worked on Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander, so they had a good [...]

WWE Money in the Bank 2014 Predictions

June 29, 2014 // 0 Comments

It’s been a while since I have written anything wrestling related for the site, but since I’m actually looking forward to Money in the Bank (and was inspired to write my own after reading Nikki’s predictions on her wonderful blog GeekyNikki) I’ve decided to write up my predictions for tonight’s WWE Money in the Bank event on PPV and of course WWE Network. Now I’m not going to just try to predict the winner of every match, I’m also going to try and predict the match order for the entire night. There are seven matches announced, and none of them have [...]

Three Changes WWE Should Make To PPV’s Now That The Network Has Arrived

March 28, 2014 // 2 Comments

We’re now just about a week away from WrestleMania XXX and the true beginning of a new era in professional wrestling. For decades, major wrestling has been built around trying to entice fans to shell out $20 to $75 for a pay-per-view every single month (some months twice). You can read the results of these old PPV’s (or watch them all on WWE Network!) and really get an idea of how the industry has evolved. With WrestleMania XXX, the industry (for WWE anyway) evolves once again. Yes, PPV’s will still air (for now) on traditional providers for outrageous prices, but for many [...]

Deadly Venom: WWE Extreme Rules 2012 Preview & Predictions

April 29, 2012 // 1 Comment

The Miz vs. Santino Marella for the United States Championship (preshow match): This match will be streamed live on WWE’s YouTube page when the pre-show begins at 6:30 pm CST. It’s quite a thrown together match, so it’s a good thing this is airing for free on a pre-show instead of actually on the pay-per-view. I’m torn on this one. Santino is a comedy character and that’s all he will ever be. Yes, he gets a good reaction from the crowd, but it’s a joke when he beats talented wrestlers who can actually be elevated to main event status (especially when he [...]

Deadly Venom: Is WWE Wasting Talent? Woo Woo Woo… You Know It!

April 27, 2011 // 1 Comment

WWE has a serious problem right now, actually it’s one they’ve had for quite some time. That problem is a lack of vision, focus, and severely misusing talent. I’m not talking about the obvious misusing of Jack Swagger, Sheamus and John Morrison, but rather the WWE “nobodies” of Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, and Trent Barreta… ironically enough three good friends who have come up together. When Curt Hawkins got drafted to RAW during the Supplemental Draft, our own Q commented “Who?” Who can blame him? It’s not like WWE has featured these guys [...]

Deadly Venom: The Top 5 Draft Moves That I Want To See Happen

April 19, 2011 // 1 Comment

The WWE Draft returns Monday night, April 25th, to RAW and below are five moves I WANT to see happen. Do note that this is Smackdown heavy (i.e. people going to Smackdown) because that’s the show that, at least in WWE’s mind, needs the help. And Smackdown is the show I prefer, so naturally I’d like to see them get the better deal for once, especially with Edge having to retire which is probably why we’re getting the draft so early this year. 1.) Randy Orton to Smackdown: Orton has done everything there is to do on RAW and really has no one left to feud with that would [...]
