Platform: PS3[reviewed], Xbox 360, PC Publisher: Bethesda Softworks Developer: Arkane Studios Genre(s): Action-adventure, Stealth Released: October 9, 2012 ESRB Rating: M - Mature Welcome back once again boys and girls, and welcome back to The Backlog. Time has not been my friend lately, thus limiting my gaming time the last couple of weeks and thus delaying my review for this installment of The Backlog. Today we will be looking into the latest offering from Bethesda and Arkane Studios, Dishonored. Dishonored is a first person, action-adventure game that can be played in a stealth fashion, a straight forward attacking style, or a combination there of. For the purposes of my play through for the review, I employed the combo of the stealth and attacking style. I wanted to try the full … [Read more...]

Review: Dishonored (PC)

Dishonored (PC [Reviewed], Playstation 3, Xbox 360) Developer: Arkane Studios Publisher: Bethesda Genre(s): First Person RPG/FPS Sim Released: October 9, 2012 ESRB Rating: M – Mature Arkane Studios consists of veterans from the Deus Ex series, Half life series, Thief games and has been 3 years in the making and I'm happy to report the wait was well worth it. It would have been huge shock and arguably one of the biggest letdowns in gaming in years had it not been given the pedigree of the talent that created this game. I’m a huge fan of these kinds of games and I'm thrilled to see them returning. Last year we had the stellar Deus Ex Human Revolution which I reviewed highly here and if you haven't played it yet you need to stop reading this and buy it immediately. Now this year we have this … [Read more...]

Our Three Most Wanted Games of Fall 2012

* This article looks best in a full browser window. Mobile users, sorry it may not appear correctly. It's a very image heavy article. We're in the second week of October already, which means the Fall gaming season is already underway. This season is absolutely stacked with huge releases and a console launch by Nintendo. For us gamers, there is a ton of stuff to be excited for this season and that means hurting wallets and crying bank accounts. The above banner features the box art for 10 games coming out over the next two months, but even that is just a small sample of what's going to be available over the Fall season. The Wii U launches on November 18th and it has an amazing launch line up ready to propel Nintendo into the HD-era and possibly welcome back the so-called "core" … [Read more...]

Choose Your Path to Revenge In This Interactive Dishonored Trailer

It's the week of the interactive trailer for games that come out October 9th apparently. Earlier this week we had the epic XCOM interactive trailer that basically served as a demo tutorial, and today Bethesda has released an interactive trailer for Dishonored titled "Path to Revenge." There's a branch in this trailer that allows for a non-violent playthrough, which is how I want to actually play the game.  The trailer is best played in full screen. Dishonored is arriving in stores this coming Tuesday, October 9th, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. … [Read more...]

Dishonored Goes Gold!

Today is a joyous day for the fine folks at Arkane Studios and Bethesda, as the publisher announced today on their blog that Dishonored has gone gold. After more than three years of development, 30+ versions of the game (accounting for different languages, countries, and platforms) are ready for release. Huge congrats to Arkane’s Lyon and Austin offices, as well as everyone else involved with the project. We also send along our congratulations to the team who have been working on the game for the past three years. We'll know in 11 days how good the game is, but everything we've seen, read, and heard indicates that it should be great and really something special. It certainly has that potential. Click on over to the Bethesda Blog to find out how you can win a sign copy of the game and … [Read more...]

Check Out This 30 Second TV Spot for Dishonored

Dishonored is coming to stores in North America in 11 days, on October 9th. The above video is a TV spot that's running to advertise the game, and if I didn't already know about the game it would definitely make me interested. It's a really good 30 second TV spot. Maybe too much killing in it though. I only say that though because I'm really wanting to play through this game without killing anyone, and judging from all the stuff I've seen on the game, that's going to be quite a challenge. Thankfully it's a challenge I'll gladly take on. Dishonored is coming to PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Less than two weeks to go! … [Read more...]

Dishonored – The Tales from Dunwall Part 2: The Hand that Feeds

Bethesda has quickly rolled out part two of their three part webisode prequel series to Dishonored called "Tales from Dunwall." You can check out out episode, The Hand that Feeds, above. From the official description: While the first episode reveals how Dunwall was revolutionized by a new energy source, this next chapter is a cautionary tale - one that illustrates the advantages, and the dangerous disadvantages, of accepting supernatural abilities from The Outsider. Working with Bethesda and its marketing agency, Rokkan, Psyop created the online series to give gamers a first-hand glimpse into the shadowy whaling world of the game's location, Dunwall, where plague is rampant and the city is in disarray and on the verge of dystopia. Dishonored will be available on October 9th in … [Read more...]

Bethesda has launched a new prequel webisode series for Dishonored called "The Tales from Dunwall." There will be three parts, and you can check out part one title "The Awakening" above. From the official description: These engrossing prequels, scored by Daniel Licht (Dexter) and narrated by Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick Ass), gives you a first-hand glimpse into Dishonored's shadowy whaling world of Dunwall, where plague is rampant and the city is in disarray and on the verge of dystopia. Created by Psyop, each episode was predominantly produced by hand. Each frame was a fully rendered style frame, which was then enhanced with 3D elements to add to the painterly atmosphere, dimension and depth of each shot. Rokkan, Bethesda's marketing agency, was responsible for the webisode's concept … [Read more...]
