Dragon Age Inquistion Gets Pushed Back to November 18th

Dragon Age Inquistion

A publisher has finally cracked and moved a game away from the stacked October 7th date, and surprisingly it was EA. The publisher announced today that BioWare's latest in the Dragon Age series, Inquistion, has been delayed a few weeks to November 18th. Had Dragon Age Inquisition stuck with its October 7th release date, it would have been competing directly with NBA 2K15, Alien: Isolation, Driveclub, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor that all release on that same day. BioWare's Mark Darrah explained that the slight delay would allow for a better game. Smith's Sentiment: EA might have faired better sticking with the October 7th date. November 18th is the day Far Cry 4 comes out and is the rumored date that GTA V will come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. … [Read more...]

Battlefield Hardline Delayed Into 2015

Battlefield Hardline

Well, Battlefield isn't going annual. At least not this year. EA has announced that the Visceral developed Battlefield: Hardline has been delayed into 2015. The game was originally scheduled to ship in October. EA claims the delay is due to feedback gathered by beta users: This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time. Time that we didn’t have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months. We decided that the right thing to do was to take more time to ensure Hardline is the best, … [Read more...]

DEMOED! EA Sports UFC First Impressions

EA Sports UFC

The demo for EA Sports UFC dropped yesterday on PS4 and Xbox One, and after spending an hour or so with it I'm beginning to like it... slowly. Much like EA Sports MMA, I find the controls to be needlessly complicated and not really thoroughly explained in the tutorial. If you came out of the tutorial understanding the submission system, then please explain it to me because I still don't get it after quite a few fights. I understand the basic premise of it, but I just don't get it. In time, I'm sure I will, but frankly I think the tutorial could be better. After all, they spend more time on throwing punches and kicks (basic stuff in a game like this) than they do on explaining the much more complicated submission system (which was designed to prevent button mashing), There's a modifier … [Read more...]

Dragon Age: Inquisition Gets October 7th Release Date, New Trailer

Dragon Age: Inquisition

The hotly anticipated third entry in the Dragon Age RPG series has finally gotten a release date: October 7, 2014. The release date announcement was made at the end of the new trailer, dubbed "The Inquisitor," which you view below. The lone survivor of a cataclysmic blast, the Inquisitor is the only one who can stop the demons terrorizing the land of Thedas. Dragon Age: Inquisition is heading to PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on October 7th. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO2h4qUNJ60 Smith's Sentiment: The trailer looks great. We'll be hearing and seeing a lot more about Dragon Age: Inquisition in June at E3, so I know the diehard Dragon Age fans are already looking forward to EA's press conference and probably Microsoft's as well. I didn't really get too far into the … [Read more...]

Review: Titanfall

review done on XBOX One version The time has finally arrived, the first big Next Gen exclusive has launched.  While Titanfall certainly had a whirlwind of hype pushing it forward the real question would be whether or not it was worth your time.  Some seemed unsure of the lack of a single player campaign in which the game launched with.  It should come as no surprise though that the guys who really helped breath life into the First Person Shooter for the mainstream would put the focus primarily into an online multiplayer.  Whether or not that gamble pays off I suppose will boil down to what it is you want out of a game such as Titanfall. Gameplay Saying Titanfall has no campaign is actually an untrue statement.   The game actually features 9 multiplayer campaign maps that you play as the … [Read more...]

Titanfall’s Closed Beta Becomes Open Beta

Late last night in response to down time in the Titanfall closed Beta due to several codes not being sent out, developer Jon Shiring announced that the Beta was opening to the public.  Shiring announced "Let's Break It" with regards to testing the game for it's retail release next month.  As of today PC and XBOX One users should be able to jump into the open Beta which will now run until February 18th. The decision to turn the closed Beta into an open one came directly from Respawn's Vince Zambella who has stated that he believes that the servers will hold up fine with worst case scenario causing possible delays during peak hours.  Regardless this should serve as a good test sample of those who will be jumping into the game come March. Stay tuned to The Vortex Effect for initial … [Read more...]

Review: Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 [PC (reviewed), PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360) Developer: DICE Publisher: Electronic Arts Genre(s): First Person Shooter Released: PC, Xbox 360, PS3: October 29, 2013; PS4: November 12, 2013; Xbox One: November 19, 2013 ESRB Rating: M – Mature EA DICE returns after two years following the release of the very successful Battlefield 3 with this inevitable sequel. I am happy to report that this game is not a quickie BF3 retread with a slicker coat of varnish on it.  They did listen to the fans feedback over the course of the last two years, as the return of Commander Mode easily indicates along with larger levels and more expansiveness in general. The game is not a revolution by any means, but it certainly is a clear evolution across the boards. I can't say the same … [Read more...]

Subjective Analysis: Plants vs. Zombies 2 – It’s About Time!

The original Plants vs. Zombies was a surprise hit when it first hit PC and Mac way back in 2009. If you were to just glance at the game, you would have seen something that looked very simple and probably wouldn't be that much fun. Turns out, it was super fun and became super popular for developer/publisher PopCap Games. It was so successful and popular that it ended up getting ported to seemingly every platform available. It hit iOS and then Xbox 360 in 2010. In 2011, the game was ported over to PS3, Nintendo DS, Android, and Windows Phone. In 2012, it hit PS Vita. Even this year, back in January, the original Plants vs. Zombies 2 hit Blackberry 10. Odds are you have played Plants vs. Zombies on at least one device/platform. If you haven't played it yourself, you more than likely know … [Read more...]

EA Made First Titanfall Exclusive To PC and Xbox For Life

When Titanfall, the multiplayer only first person shooter with mechs from Respawn Entertainment, was first announced during the Microsoft press conference at E3 as an Xbox (360 and One) console exclusive, many folks simply assumed that it would be a timed exclusive. It turns out that that isn't the case, and to make matters worse it appears that Respawn Entertainment didn't have anything to do with it and didn't even know about it until recently. During an earnings call with investors today, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen stated that Titan fall is "exclusive only for the lifetime of the title on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC." That seems an odd way to word it. It's exclusive only for the lifetime of the title. So just say Titanfall isn't ever coming to anything other than PC, Xbox One, and Xbox … [Read more...]

Battlefield 4 Beta Begins in October

EA announced today that the Battlefield 4 beta will begin in October. If you purchased Medal of Honor: Warfighter you will have access to the beta, but there will be additional ways to get into it once it begins. No other details have been announced for the beta. Battlefield 4 launches on October 29th, so this really won't be much of a beta. Glorified demo or sneak peek is probably more accurate. … [Read more...]
