Watch Kane Speak Facts About Money & Federal Reserve

In the video above, Glenn Jacobs (WWE wrestler Kane) speaks on "The Mises View" about the Federal Reserve, it's creation, and what it does to our "money" today. It's a very quick two minutes, and I highly recommend giving it a watch or at least listening to it. "The Devi's Favorite Demon," "The Big Red Monster," whatever you want to call him, Kane has long been a favorite of mine and not just because he's a libertarian Ron Paul supporting fan of Austrian economics either. Having said that, all of that stuff makes Glenn Jacobs awesome. When you get finished, be sure and visit the official website of The Mises Institute, which is the webs premiere destination for Austrian economics and is located in Auburn, Alabama not too far from where I am. The site, which I check daily, has a ton … [Read more...]

Quick Daily Review #17: How An Economy Grows and Why It Crashes [Book]

Quick Daily Review #17: How An Economy Grows and Why It Crashes [Book] Author: Peter Schiff, Andrew Schiff Publisher: Wiley Hardcover: 233 pages When I first got How An Economy Grows and Why It Crashes by Peter and Andrew Schiff a few years ago, I finished reading the book the day I got it because I didn't want to put it down. I usually take my time with a book, read a little here and a little there and finish in a few days (or weeks depending on how long the book it is and how dry the writing is). Not this one though, it was/is THAT good. I've since read it several more times. Peter and his brother Andrew have written a wonderful book that expands and even improves on their father's classic How An Economy Grows and Why It Doesn't. This book is an essential teaching tool that everyone … [Read more...]

Review: Predator Nation

Predator Nation: Corporate Criminals, Political Corruption, and the Hijacking of America Author: Charles H. Ferguson Publisher: Crown Business Hardcover: 384 pages ISBN: 978-0-307-95255-4 Released: May 22, 2012 You may know Charles Ferguson as the director and writer of the 2010 Academy Award winning documentary Inside Job, which examined the financial crisis from 2007-2010.  If you watched that documentary and liked it and agreed with it, then this book is for you. Predator Nation is essentially a book follow-up/extension to Inside Job. It's also a book the left will love and eat up as gospel, so if you're a liberal then you should buy this book as you'll definitely enjoy it. There are a few ways I could take this review; I could use this as an opportunity to speak against the message … [Read more...]

Even At “Record” Highs, Gasoline Is Still A Bargain

Gas prices have been in the news again here recently, see here (record highs) and here ($4 gas coming this year). Currently, the average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.39. That seems high, and certainly isn’t fun to pay, but when things are put into perspective you see that gasoline is really quite a bargain and really hasn’t gone up much at all (or any). Let’s look back at 1964 for a moment. Gasoline was at 27 cents per gallon! Ah, the good old days. Imagine that, you could buy a gallon of gasoline for a measly three dimes. The average hourly wage for workers in the private sector was $2.53 in 1964. The average hourly wage for workers in the private sector in 2011 was a little over $19. That 27 cents per gallon when adjusted for inflation at 2011 levels would have been $1.96 … [Read more...]

Fight of the Century: Keynes vs. Hayek Round Two

Stinger's View: Even better than the first one. Hayek with the win, obviously. Oh and whether he provided a birth certificate or not, Obama is still a Keynesian. … [Read more...]
