After a fan vote tournament, Seahawk’s defender Richard Sherman defeated Cam Newton in the finals to be on the cover of Madden NFL 15, hitting stores on August 26th. EA Sports announced that over the entirety of the tournament, over 10 million votes were cast. “Richard Sherman is a fantastic cover athlete selection by the fans,” said Anthony Stevenson, Vice President of Global Marketing for EA SPORTS.  “Defense is a big focus for Madden NFL 15, and Sherman is one of the brightest defensive stars in the NFL.  He shares the same energy and passion for the game as our ‘legion’ [...]

Football Fury Week 2: Halftime Update (Late Games)

September 16, 2012 // 0 Comments

Wow. The Cards went into New England and came out winners. I did not see that coming. At the end of the day, though, Calais Campbell, Darnell Dockett, Patty Pete, and company kept Tom Brady off balance just about all game long, and when Tommy Terrific finally found Rob Gronkowski in the end zone, it proved to be too little, too late. Whatever thunder Andrew Luck garnered earlier this afternoon is in danger of being stolen by Robert Griffin III. Again. Griffin is off to a great start in St. Louis, albeit having thrown his first career interception. After a hot start that saw the ‘Skins [...]

Football Fury Week 2: Halftime Update (Early Games)

September 16, 2012 // 0 Comments

So far, I’d say the first half of today’s festivities belongs to two young men: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, whose gone 11/17 for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns so far, and Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller, who’s rushed for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 11 carries. It looks like the beginning of a breakout year for Spiller, and the end of anyone anywhere caring at all about Fred Jackson. As for Luck, I struggle to comprehend how good he’ll become. Especially when he gets some sort of an offensive line in front of him. In Charlotte, [...]

Football Fury Week 2: First Quarter Update (Early Games)

September 16, 2012 // 0 Comments

Rookie Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has just thrown his first career touchdown in Lucas Oil Stadium. What a career he’s going to have. Elsewhere, the Eagles and Ravens are all knotted up an 7, the Saints are not unpredictably leading the Carolina Panthers, and the Arizona Cardinals are out to a fairly surprising 6-0 lead over the once-nearly-perfect New England Patriots. Enjoy it while it lasts, Cards [...]

Football Fury Week 2: It’s (A)Live!

September 16, 2012 // 0 Comments

Happy Sunday, Internet. Week 2 is underway, and I’ll be bringing you my thoughts on all the action of the day, as it unfolds. For starters, the Eagles are off to a great start. Even though Michael Vick threw a red zone interception, the Philly D got him the football right back. Even if it’s not always sunny in Philadelphia, it certainly seems to be [...]

Football Fury Week 1: Back Again Like A Kardashian

September 14, 2012 // 2 Comments

Well, Internet, pro football is finally back, and I couldn’t be much happier. Last year, I did a full-on season preview in which I not-so-famously-but-nonetheless-correctly predicted Peyton Manning’s fate. The part about his going on IR., I mean Not the part about his being cast out of Indianapolis and going to Denver. I did not see that one coming. Starting next week, this section will be comprised of brief game-by-game analyses and predictions, but this week I’m already a week and a half behind, so everything’s getting kind of mashed together in the name of [...]

Broncos Advance in NFL Playoffs Following Stunning Overtime Touchdown Pass

January 8, 2012 // 1 Comment

The Tim Tebow led Denver Broncos did it again today, scoring on the first play in overtime on an 80-yard touchdown pass from Tebow to Demaryius Thomas to win the AFC wild-card game 29-23. Watch the video below: Tebow and the Broncos will have a huge battle ahead of them on Saturday when they take on the top-seeded New England Patriots in the second round of the playoffs. I’m not an NFL fan, but I am a Gator fan and a Tebow fan, so here’s hoping they can continue the magic and pull off the huge upset to knock the Patriots and continue on. Go [...]

TVE’s 2011 NFL Forecast, Part 4: AFC & NFC West Divisions

September 9, 2011 // 3 Comments

Over the course of this week, we’ve been taking brief looks at what this NFL season may well hold for each club, and now it’s time to bring it home. Cover your wagons as we make like the Donner party and head West for this final chapter. Prediction:  2-14; 4th in AFC West I think Broncos fans will have to endure at least one more year of disappointment as the organization continues its recovery from the nuclear disaster that was Josh McDaniels’ tenure as head coach/general manager. I get the feeling that quarterback Kyle Orton will continue to be a stable, if unspectacular, [...]

TVE’s 2011 NFL Forecast, Part 3: AFC & NFC South Divisions

September 9, 2011 // 3 Comments

We’re now officially beyond the halfway point of this little endeavor. Journey with me, Internet, into the Bible belt as we dissect the AFC & NFC South. Prediction:  3-13; 4th in AFC South Nothing says instability like a team’s starting Quarterback not making it to the final 53-man roster, does it? Sure, we figured former Jags signal-caller David Garrard’s days to be somewhat numbered after the team chose Missouri standout Blaine Gabbert with the tenth overall selection in April’s draft, but I’m not sure anyone would have guessed that number was as small as [...]

TVE’s 2011 NFL Forecast, Part 2: AFC & NFC North Divisions

September 7, 2011 // 9 Comments

Yesterday, we took a look at the East divisions of both the AFC and the NFC. Today, we move to the Midwest as we examine the North divisions. Prediction:  3-13; 4th in AFC North Even though Cincinnati seems to have improved of the defensive side of the game, this is a Bengals team that has seen the departure of longtime star wideout Chad Johnson to the greener pastures of New England, as well as the apparent retirement of onetime franchise quarterback Carson Palmer. Andy Dalton may very well become the next “guy”, as they say, in Cincinnati, but I don’t think it’ll [...]

TVE’s 2011 NFL Forecast, Part 1: AFC & NFC East Divisions

September 6, 2011 // 3 Comments

With the 2011 NFL season’s official kickoff being less than a week out, I thought it might be fun to play Nostradamus. I’ll be starting with the East divisions, and I’ll be following that up with predictions for each division every day this week, to culminate with the AFC & NFC West. My first order of business will be the seeming two-horse race that is the AFC East. Prediction:  3-13; 4th in AFC East One thing that Buffalo GM Buddy Nix has irrefutably done right over the past year has been the fortification of his team’s defense. He looks to have done an admirable [...]
