Review: The Golf Club

The Golf Club

The Golf Club (PC, PS4, Xbox One)Developer: HB StudiosPublisher: HB StudiosGenre(s): Golf, SportsReleased: August 19, 2014 (PC, XOne), August 26th (PS4)ESRB Rating: E - Everyone Since there have been gaming consoles, there have been golf games for those consoles. While I don't ever watch golf on TV, I do enjoy playing it (for real on occasions, though it's been a while since I've done it) and on consoles. We're nearing the one year anniversary of the release of PS4 and Xbox One, and thanks to HB Studios we finally have a golf game to play on the new systems. Thankfully, it's also a good golf game. The Golf Club doesn't feature any real golf courses or players, nor does it have a ton of customization options. But that's okay because The Golf Club is more focused on the game of golf than … [Read more...]

Evolve Delayed Until February 10, 2015

Well, October continues to lose some of its heavy hitters. First it was EA delaying Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield: Hardline, and today 2K has announced that it's pushing the unique shooter back to February 10, 2015. Originally set the release on October 21st, 2K says they've delayed the game to allow for more development time, which certainly isn't a bad thing. Here's the statement that 2K released: As stated on the Take-Two Interactive earnings call, 2K and Turtle Rock Studios are extending the development of Evolve by a few months to allow enough time to fully realize the vision for Evolve and meet our collective standards of creative excellence. We are encouraged by the press reaction and fan excitement coming out of a very successful E3, and we are now certain we are … [Read more...]

Review: Rogue Legacy

Rogue Legacy (PS4 [Reviewed], PS3, PS Vita, PC) Developer: Cellar Door Games Publisher: Cellar Door Games Genre(s): Roguelike, 2D Platformer Released: July 29, 2014 (PlayStation Systems), June 27, 2013 (PC) ESRB: T - Teen Rogue Legacy was a critical hit when it released on PC a little over a year ago, and today Cellar Door Games have brought their hit title to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita with cross-buy and cross-save. Rogue Legacy is now available on the PlayStation Store for $16.99, and that's a great price since you're getting it for three systems and because the game is superb. I became a fan of the “roguelike,” or in this case “roguelite,” genre last year (I know, way late to the genre party) when Spelunky came to PS3. There's something about the procedurally generated worlds and old … [Read more...]

15 Minutes of Game: Rogue Legacy

15 Minutes of Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsbvYONzeXM We're back for the third time this week with another 15 Minutes of Game, this time looking at the superb indie roguelike game Rogue Legacy. I had a few decent runs during this video, and it ends on a high note as I was able to vanquish the first boss, that giant eyeball of doom known as Khidr. I think it took me 37 deaths before I made it and defeated the boss. I'll have a full review of Rogue Legacy coming this week. The game hits PS4, PS3, and PS Vita on Tuesday, July 29th. It is a cross-buy/cross-save title and is available to pre-order now for $16.99 ($13.99 if you're a PS Plus member). It's been on PC for over a year. This video is of the PS4 version. I'll have a separate post going up later today about it, but Rogue Legacy will be the … [Read more...]

Review: Unrest

Unrest (PC) Developer: Pyrodactyl Games Publisher: Kiss LTD Genre: Adventure RPG Released: July 23, 2014 ESRB: Not Rated Unrest is an RPG that is vastly different than anything I would usually play. There's no real combat in the game and there are no puzzles to solve. There's no leveling up or experience gained. There's not even one main character to play as. Unrest is set in ancient India during a time of riots and general unrest (hence the name). You'll play as several different characters throughout the game, each broken up into their own chapter(s). You'll move your character through the beautiful hand drawn world and talk to NPC's and do simple quest. The bulk of game is reading and answering questions with some of the best written dialogue choices that I've seen in a game before. … [Read more...]

Dragon Age Inquistion Gets Pushed Back to November 18th

Dragon Age Inquistion

A publisher has finally cracked and moved a game away from the stacked October 7th date, and surprisingly it was EA. The publisher announced today that BioWare's latest in the Dragon Age series, Inquistion, has been delayed a few weeks to November 18th. Had Dragon Age Inquisition stuck with its October 7th release date, it would have been competing directly with NBA 2K15, Alien: Isolation, Driveclub, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor that all release on that same day. BioWare's Mark Darrah explained that the slight delay would allow for a better game. Smith's Sentiment: EA might have faired better sticking with the October 7th date. November 18th is the day Far Cry 4 comes out and is the rumored date that GTA V will come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. … [Read more...]

Battlefield Hardline Delayed Into 2015

Battlefield Hardline

Well, Battlefield isn't going annual. At least not this year. EA has announced that the Visceral developed Battlefield: Hardline has been delayed into 2015. The game was originally scheduled to ship in October. EA claims the delay is due to feedback gathered by beta users: This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time. Time that we didn’t have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months. We decided that the right thing to do was to take more time to ensure Hardline is the best, … [Read more...]

15 Minutes of Game: Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty

15 Minutes of Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D79fjs5Dwsc Time for another 15 Minutes of Game, and this time around we are looking at the first 15 minutes of Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, which hits PS4 today and is coming soon to PS3, PC, Xbox One, Wii U, and PS Vita. On the PlayStation systems, New 'n' Tasty is a cross-buy title. For those of you who don't know what New 'n' Tasty is, it is a remastering/remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, which is the first game in the Oddworld series and originally released on PSOne back in 1997. The 2.5D platformer has been completely overhauled for the modern era. Unlike the original, there are multiple difficulties and on Easy/Normal there are more checkpoints and health points. Hard is like the original; get hit once and you're dead. I'll have a review posted … [Read more...]
