Review: The Witcher III – Wild Hunt (PC)

July 24, 2015 // 0 Comments

The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt (PC [Reviewed], Xbox One, PS4) Developer(s): CD Projekt RED Publisher: CD Projekt RED Genre(s): Open world, Action RPG Released: May 19, 2015 ESRB Rating: M – Mature This gaming series has been a frustration for me. Frustrating because I have played and tried each game in this series and did my darnedest to fall in love with the games and just couldn’t because some of the gameplay and combat mechanics were not to my liking. I just couldn’t get on board and get excited. Until now. The third time really is the charm for me and likely a lot of other [...]

New Video Game Releases for the Week of May 31st – June 6th

May 31, 2015 // 0 Comments

It’s a big week according to the list, but not much of note comes out this week, especially for you retail loving gamers. There is a hugely controversial title coming out tomorrow for PC called Hatred, and there’s a delightful looking non-combat, non-competitive MMO coming to Steam and PS4 called Wander. Sparkle Unleashed also hits PlayStation platforms. Below is the list of games releasing this week. Lots for Steam and PlayStation owners, very little for others. June 1st: Hatred (PC) Massive Chalice (XONE, PC) Dungeon Crawlers HD (Steam) stratO (Steam) Avenging Angel (Steam) [...]

Review: R.B.I. Baseball ’15

April 20, 2015 // 2 Comments

R.B.I. Baseball ’15 (PS4 [Reviewed], Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS, Android) Developer(s): MLB Advanced Media Publisher: MLB Advanced Media Genre(s): Sports, Baseball Released: March 31, 2015 ESRB Rating: E – Everyone It’s been just about a year since the classic R.B.I. Baseball franchise was resurrected by MLB Advanced Media. I gave last year’s title two and a half stars, which is decent/average on our scale. My main complaints with the game from a year ago were the lack of stat tracking and the camera when fielding. In my conclusion from that review I stated, “Hopefully the [...]

Not An Official Review: Dying Light

February 9, 2015 // 1 Comment

I’ve had Dying Light since release when I received a digital code to review the game. That was a few weeks ago. I am progressing extremely slowly, but at this point I’ve seen enough of the game to write the review. However it comes with the caveat that I will not be assigning a score to the game, for two reasons: I haven’t completed the campaign or tried the multiplayer, and my problem with the game that has slowed my progression probably isn’t an issue for most gamers. I play a lot of video games, and play a lot of first person games. Destiny immediately springs to [...]

Review: Assassin’s Creed Unity (PC)

January 22, 2015 // 1 Comment

Assassin’s Creed Unity (PC [Reviewed], Xbox One,  PS4,) Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Publisher: Ubisoft Genre(s): Open World, Third Person Stealth, Third Person Action Adventure Released: November 11, 2014 ESRB Rating: M – Mature Game Version Reviewed: 1.4   I deliberately held off on doing this review because very few if any outlets have bothered to give this game a fair shake post patches. The bulk of what you see out there is either 1.0 or 1.1 when the game was in a far worse state. As of the date I write this: January 1, 2015, the game is vastly improved and evolved from its [...]

Now Gaming: What We’re Playing This Week (January Week 3)

January 22, 2015 // 0 Comments

It’s been awhile since we last did this, but we’re hoping to get back in the groove of making it a weekly feature.  It’s just three of us this time around; Brian, Jules, and myself. These are the games that we’re playing this week. Fallout (PC) I’m still chipping away at Fallout and still enjoying it quite a bit. It’s just a really good story and there’s a lot of neat stuff to play with. Obviously for a PC game, the game play is a lot of point and click, but if you set up your character right, there are so many options you can do in regards to [...]

Vortex Effect’s Most Anticipated Games of 2015

December 31, 2014 // 3 Comments

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already New Year’s Eve. Man, 2014 just flew by. A lot happened in gaming during the course of the year; some big titles released for all systems, PS4 and Xbox One celebrated their first year on the market, and Christmas was ruined for plenty of gamers thanks to DDOS attacks on PSN and Xbox Live. Looking back on the year, 2014 had its fair share of big release titles and a lot of them surprisingly were plagued by launch issues whether it be because it of online issues or just bugs in general. Hopefully 2015 won’t continue the trend of [...]

Now Gaming: What We’re Playing This Week (December Week 1)

December 2, 2014 // 0 Comments

It’s a new month, and one that is historically pretty quite following a massive November. Brian returns to the feature this week, joining myself and Jules as we give our gaming run down for the week. Eric’s hasn’t changed any, so he isn’t joining us this time around. With that out of the way, here are the games we’re playing this week. Path of Exile (PC) This free-to-play action RPG released last year, but I’ve only just started playing it Sunday. I’m very early into it, but thus far I’m enjoying it. I wish the map did a better job of explaining [...]
