If I wanted to be super lazy I could simply post those links and say this game is more of the same except in the African theater with larger and better level design, better graphics, and a few more customization choices and call it a day because that's basically it. But I can do better than that … [Read more...]

15 Minutes of Game: Thief

15 Minutes of Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJCfK0AonpE Time for another installment of 15 Minutes of Game and this time around we're looking at a playthrough of the "Lockdown" chapter of Thief on PS4. This is the demo that was added to the PlayStation Store in yesterday's update (and I can only assume the same demo that was available at launch and then removed without notice soon after). In this game of first person stealth, I failed. Not only did I get the predator label for knocking out guys (at least I didn't kill anyone), but I also got spotted. And the reason I got spotted was because I hit the square button and peaked around a close door when I was actually trying to close the open door. That couple of seconds prevented me from getting to the jewelry case and sneaking up on that guard. That … [Read more...]

Review: Watch_Dogs

Watch Dogs (PC [Reviewed], PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii-U) Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Publisher: Ubisoft Genre: Open World, Action-Adventure Stealth Released: May 27, 2014 ESRB Rating: M – Mature Ever since E3 2012, Watch Dogs has been one of the most hyped and anticipated titles on any system and for good reason. The now near legendary and certainly controversial video that Ubisoft showed at the E3 was a jaw dropping, gorgeous looking game that teased a slick cyberhack Grand Theft Auto variant with everything “cranked to 11.” To be fair, nothing was going to live up to the hype and imagination gamers used as they waited for the release and any tidbit of news or more footage was eagerly gobbled up.  During that time, some of those morsels provided deflation in the form of the … [Read more...]

Review: Thief

Thief (PC [Reviewed], PS4, XB1, Playstation 3, Xbox 360) Developer: Eidos Montreal   *Nixxes Software BV for the PC. Publisher: Square Enix Genre: First person stealth adventure Release date: February 25, 2014 This is a series that has been on hiatus for too long. Like many other long fans who have held their breath since the mixed bag but IMHO overly hated Dark Shadows, the news of a new Thief game was at first met with jubilation and then as media and details came forth a sense of caution and concerns on certain details. Some of these concerns were well warranted as we have ourselves another mixed bag of a Thief game. I think there's some hate out there that is extremely overblown. I have seen some reviews that also go to another extreme of absolutely gushing although they are in the … [Read more...]

Review: Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Splinter Cell: Blacklist (PC [Reviewed], PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U) Developer: Ubisoft Toronto Publisher: Ubisoft Genre(s): Third Person Shooter, Stealth Released: August 20, 2013 Price: $59.99 ESRB Rating: M – Mature Splinter Cell has finally “come back.” That's my short teaser for the theme of this review and many others reviews out there for that matter. This game brings the best aspects of Splinter Cell Conviction and previous pre Double Agent Splinter Cell games and merges those aspects together in a new and extremely satisfying whole. What Blacklist does it does very well. It feels like Splinter Cell taken to the next level in a lot of ways and I'm pleased enough with it that it will very likely be somewhere on or near my Game of the Year shortlist before the year is … [Read more...]

The Backlog Volume # 23 – Dark

Platform: Xbox 360[reviewed], PC Publisher: Kalypso Media Developer: Realmforge Studios Genre(s): Stealth, Action, RPG Released: July 9, 2013 ESRB Rating: M-Mature Hello all and welcome back to The Backlog. It's been a while since we've done this, so hopefully this will be an entertaining read for you all. I know I have the feeling I'm going to be entertained writing it. Today we'll take a look at Dark, Kalypso and Realmforge's offering at the world of stealth-action games. Kalypso are the folks that brought us the last two games in the Tropico series, the Central American Dictator version of SimCity. Back to the game at hand, Dark is about a vampire. Ties in nicely with the stealth and action format don't you think? So did I, but this is where things start to go down hill. Buckle … [Read more...]

Review: Hitman Absolution

Hitman Absolution (PC [Reviewed], Playstation 3, Xbox 360) Developer: IO Interactive Publisher: Square-Enix Genre(s): Third person action/stealth Released: November 20, 2012 ESRB Rating: M – Mature I'm a long time Hitman fanboy. I view Blood Money as the apex of the series and that hasn't changed with the advent of this game. Just to get that out of the way. At least once a year I have to fire up at least Blood Money for a jaunt and often times Contracts and Silent Assassin as well. The games are permanent residents on my hard drive. It's been a long six year wait for myself and a lot of other people, but a new Hitman game is finally upon us. I'm really not sure why it took IO this long to get around to it since the series has always been a glowing success on all platforms. It … [Read more...]
