The demo for UFC Undisputed 3 hit PSN and XBLA last Tuesday, and I’ve finally been able to take it for a spin after looking forward to it for quite a while. Here’s some quick impressions.
The demo features a one round UFC fight with Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, and a one round PRIDE fight between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Wanderlei Silva.
The gameplay boat hasn’t been rocked any. Controls are just like you will remember them from previous games, and that’s okay with me because the controls work and feel good. It does seem fast pace and more arcadish than a pure simulation would, but that’s great too.
I played each mode eight times using each character four times, across all the difficulty modes except the highest one. I won some, and I lost some (including one that I was sure I was going to win and then got knocked the hell out). Of course it’s easy to win on the easiest difficulty, but the game does get more balanced and harder (more fun and more challenging) as you increase the difficulty.
I really like inclusion of PRIDE mode, which feels like its own game added in. Controls are the same, but the mode has its own arenas, referees, fighters (models and attires), announcers, commentary, and of course PRIDE rules. I was always a much bigger fan of PRIDE than I was the UFC, so this is a killer mode as far as I’m concerned and I look forward to exploring the full depth of the mode.
If you liked the previous UFC Undisputed games, then this one should be a no brainer purchase for you. It plays great, the presentation is great, and it looks like it’s going to be the most featured packed to date. UFC Undisputed 3 hits stores on February 14th for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
