Wedding Crashers is the story of John (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy (Vince Vaughn), who are two divorce mediators who go to weddings during wedding season (Spring) to pick up chicks and get some free food/alcoholic beverages.
The film starts with the duo being shown in action at various weddings, weaving all sorts of lies to fit whatever persona’s they use at each individual wedding. As the wedding season comes to a close, Jeremy talks John into crashing one last wedding, a wedding that Jeremy refers to as “the Kentucky Derby of weddings”. This is the wedding of Christina Cleary, one of the three daughters of Treasury Secretary Cleary (Christopher Walken). Christina is not a character to concern ourselves with, she has no big role other than being the bride at the wedding. Instead, it is Christina’s two sisters who our wedding crashing duo will be hooking up with.
John is smitten with Claire Clearly (Rachel McAdams) from the beginning, while Jeremy finds himself the object of obsession from the insane Clearly sister, Gloria (Isla Fisher). Once John gets invited to the Clearly house for the weekend, the movie really picks up as Jeremy has to follow John into the Clearly household.
John falls for Claire even more and the two form a connection, while Jeremy has to deal with insane Gloria. Isla Fisher does a great job of stealing the show throughout the movie by basically becoming the standout character from the movie. Isla plays off of Vince Vaughn, who is hilarious in almost everything he is in, much better than any other woman playing opposite Vaughn. Vaughn and Fisher on-screen together is a comedic gold mine.
The sexual abuse and humiliation that Jeremy faces, as well as his profanity filled rants, will leave you laughing out loud. If your looking for gut-busting comedy and something different from the standard romance/comedy, then Wedding Crashers is what you are looking for. Terrific cast and wonderfully directed/produced, this movie gets 4 stars for being a rare comedy gem. Stream/rent it if you haven’t seen it, but be certain to add it to your DVD/Blu-ray collection sometime soon.
