Rashad Evans Hurts Knee, Pulls out of UFC 170

Pro Wrestling Post

Just ten days before he was scheduled to face off against unbeaten Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, Rashad Evans has sustained a knee injury and has been forced to pull out of the bout.  While UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta did not disclose full details of the injury he did say Rashad is expected to only need four weeks worth of rehab on the knee and they are currently looking at the possibility of re-booking the fight for UFC 172 in Baltimore.  The bout featuring Welterweights Rory MacDonald and Demian Maia has been promoted to Co-Main Event and the card will proceed with 10 bouts rather than 11.

UFC 170 takes place February 22nd and features a Main Event of unbeaten Ronda Rousey defending her Women’s Bantamweight title against unbeaten Sara McMann.

  1. Weird situation with this bout. Chael Sonnen offered to fight Cormier on short notice since DC really wanted to fight on UFC 170. The UFC didn’t really want Chael to take the fight though because he is in the middle of filming TUF: Brazil and is scheduled to fight Wanderlei Silva in May. The UFC was looking at moving the fight to UFC 172 in April but apparently that didn’t sit well with Cormier either. So they signed a former training partner of Cormier Patrick Cummins who has a 4-0 record in MMA to take the fight on short notice. While Cummins certainly has a ton to gain if he could pull off the upset, Cormier really gains nothing from this fight. Maybe if Cormier dominates this fight they’ll still book him and Rashad in April anyway.

  2. Gotta love Chael. He’d fight twice on every card if they’d let him.

  3. Yeah that’s the thing about Chael he absolutely won’t run from anybody. Also apparently the injury to Rashad is worse than originally expected and will require surgery.
