Destiny Daily 10/24/14: Xur Returns With More Exotic Items, Bounties, Daily Heroic

Destiny Daily

Guardians, it’s Friday, and that means Xur has returned to the Tower. You can check out his wares and location immediately below this (and the bounties are below Xur this time, for those of you who only come for the bounties). I had a pretty good day yesterday; playing as my Hunter I got a rare engram that decrypted into a pair of legendary gauntlets for my Titan. I immediately put that in my vault to pass to him; he needed those gauntlets to replace the rare ones. That put my titan up to level 26. Still need to get some legendary boots, but the grind to increase rep isn’t fun the second time around. I also, for the first time since the engram patch weeks ago, got a legendary engram. Not as a reward, but as a drop. You’ll get to see it drop next week, because it happened during a story mission and I’ve been recording them on level 28. Yes, I danced. No, it didn’t turn into anything except an Ascendant Energy. Didn’t care, was the first time I’ve seen one in a month.

Xur’s Exotics

Item DESCRIPTION Price
The Armamentarium  Titan Chest – For this, there Is One Remedy  13 SC
Crest of Alpha Lupi  Hunter Chest – You’ve heard every last tale of the wolf by now. None of them are true. You are the wolf.  13 SC
Voidfang Vestments  Warlock Chest – “YOU WILL DREAM OF TEETH AND NOTHING ELSE” – scratched behind a buckle 13 SC
Suros Regime  Assault Rifle – Nostalgia as a weapon of war. Style as a hallmark of victory.  23 SC
Exotic Engram  Gauntlet Exotic Engram – Random exotic gauntlets for a random class.  23 MoL

Xur can be found down stairs, above and to the right of the three class mentors at the big table. He’s been there before, can’t really miss him. I have 24 Strange Coins, but absolutely nothing for me this week. I considered buying Crest of Alpha Lupi, but probably won’t go that route. Looks like I’ll be saving them. If you missed on on Suros Regime a few weeks ago when it was for sale, definitely get it this week if you have the coins. Assault Rifle’s were nerfed, but the gun is still amazing and should be in everyone’s collection. I was really hoping for either The Last Word or the MIDA Multi-Tool… maybe next week.

Vanguard Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION + REP / + EXP
Relic Harvest – Mars Collect 200 Olympus Tears on Mars.  +50 / +2,500
Exalted Hive Kill 10 Hive Majors or Ultras.  +100 / +5,000
Knuckleduster Melee Kill 30 enemies without dying.  +50 / +2,500
Unstoppable Earn 9000 Experience without dying. (Does not include Bounty XP reward.  +50 / +2,500
Target: Divisive Mind Defeat the Divisive Mind in “The Black Garden” mission on Mars with the Heroic modifier active.  +100 / +5,000
Patrol Mars Complete 6 Patrol missions on Mars.  +50 / +2,500

When doing today’s bounties, I’d recommend taking “Unstoppable” first and running the daily heroic. You may not complete the bounty (definitely won’t if you’re doing the level 20 or 24 version), but it’s the quickest way to get a lot of experience. After completing the daily, I’d head to Earth with “Exalted Hive” and “Knuckleduster.” Head to the center right from the spawn and melee all of the Fallen; won’t take long. After you get that, the quickest and easiest way to complete Exalted Hive is to return to the Earth spawn area and then go to the little shack ahead and slightly to the left. Go down stairs and run to the room where a Hallowed Knight and two Hallowed Acolytes spawn. Kill them, run to back wall past the stairs you came down, wait a second or two, and then run back to the room and kill them again. Rinse and repeat two more times. Won’t take more than three minutes.

From there, take “Divisive Mind,” “Relic Harvest,” and “Patrol Mars,” and start up The Black Garden mission and put it on the first difficulty that makes it heroic. Kill the Divisive Mind and either go to orbit or continue the mission. You’ll collect Olympus Tears for each kill you get, and so if you leave and don’t have enough you can easily mop it up while completing the patrol missions.

Crucible Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION + REP / + EXP
First Blood Earn 3 First Blood medals.  +100 / +5,000
Relic Hunter Participate in 10 Salvage Zone captures.  +50 / +2,500
Throw Down Defeat 20 Guardians with your melee attack.  +100 / +5,000
 Target Practice Earn 10 Gunslinger medals.  +100 / +5,000
 Party’s Over Earn 5 Enforcer medals.  +100 / +5,000
 Revengeance Earn 5 Postmortem medals. +100 / +5,000

The Crucible playlist for today is Control. The Salvage mode isn’t available, which is why the bounty is scratched out since it is impossible to complete today. However, the Combined Arms “mode” is available to play today. Why you would want to do that, I don’t know, but it’s there if you do.

Daily Heroic Mission: The Archive

Location: Ishtar Sink, Venus

Description:

  • Find the Collective’s lost Archive, sealed for centuries, in a vault deep beneath the Ishtar Academy.

Modifiers:

  • HEROIC – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
  • LIGHTSWITCH – Minions of Darkness deal much more melee damage.

Rewards:

  • Cryptarch Engram
  • Vanguard Marks +5
  • +4800 XP (lvl 20) l +6000 XP (lvl 24) l +7500 XP (lvl 28)
  • Ascendant Material (lvl 24) l 2 Ascendant Materials (lvl 28)

This mission isn’t hard, but can be tricky if you aren’t careful. I recommend getting on your sparrow at the start, and riding all the way to the Academy while ignoring everything else.

The first mandatory area isn’t hard. You’ll take out some Shanks, Dregs, and Vandals. There will be a sniper, so take him out first. Then you’ll want to deal with Simkis-3 (the servitor) and the two Reaver Vandals. A couple of minutes and your done and waiting on Dinklebot to open the vault.

In the vault, you’re waiting on Dinklebot to get the information from the Archive. Which for you means killing waves of enemies. This isn’t really hard, but do be cautious because there will be a couple of waves that will include Stealth Vandals. You do NOT want them to get within melee range of you, because of the Lightswitch modifier. So keep your guard up.

Kill the waves, the two servitors, and finally the big wave that includes Grayliks, the Winter Baron. A few of sniper shots to the head and he’ll go down relatively quickly.

Again, the mission is overall pretty easy, but do keep an eye out for stealth vandals and don’t let anything close to you. The Lightswitch modifier is what makes this one somewhat tricky.

That’s going to do it for today Guardians. Remember, no Destiny Daily on Saturday and Sunday, so I’ll be back again on Monday for more Destiny Daily. Did you buy anything from Xur this week? Let us know in the comments below, and also be sure to let me know what you think of the design change for these posts and the Destiny Daily Live Stream.
