Destiny Daily 12/8/14: The Dark Below Arrives Tomorrow Alongside World Reset, Daily Bounties

Destiny Daily

Yesterday I encountered something frustrating that ended up being very nice. I went to play Destiny, and low and behold I couldn’t. I was locked out. Like many folks who bought the digital version on PS4 and pre-ordered The Dark Below, Sunday I was suddenly locked out of the game. Instead of being able to start it, I was met with a pre-order countdown timer letting me know the game would be playable in 1 day and 12 hours. I restored licenses twice, and it didn’t work. Lots of other folks were reporting the issue, and the only thing that was fixing the problem was uninstalling the game and downloading it again. I didn’t want to do that. My ISP doesn’t have a bandwidth cap (if they do, it is so insanely high that I’ve never hit it), but I didn’t want to wait the hours I knew it would take to download it again because of how slow PSN downloads have been since firmware update 2.0.

Wanting to play the game though, I went ahead and uninstalled and re-downloaded. It finished at some point when I was watching Once Upon A Time. When I came back in the room, it was finished installing and I was met with a screen informing me that I had been sent back to the main menu because of inactivity (which was weird, because I hadn’t moved past the install screen to ever be active). Nevertheless, when I signed into my Hunter, I was able to see the Nightfall, Weekly, Strike Playlist, and Crucible. These had been locked out for me because my PS+ subscription ran out at the end of last month and I haven’t renewed (and won’t until after Christmas). So I was able to do the Nightfall (I received an exotic helmet for my hunter that I already had and didn’t use; so I dismantled it for an exotic shard) and the Weekly Heroic (9 strange coins, and surprise a legendary engram that turned into 2 Ascendant Energies). I was able to do strike playlists and even the crucible. Of course exiting and going back into the game has me locked out again, but still nice that I was able to do the Nightfall and Weekly this week.

Tomorrow is The Dark Below, and I think most of us are probably excited for that. It’s going to be so nice to play a mission that you’ve haven’t already played a hundred times already. The Dark Below goes live at around 3am CT, same time as the weekly world reset.

Daily Heroic Mission: The Dark Within

Location: Old Russia, Earth

  • Investigate reports of a hidden power trapped in the Cosmodrome Array stations.

  • HEROIC – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
  • LIGHTSWITCH – Minions of the Darkness deal much more melee damage.

  • Cryptarch Engram
  • Vanguard Marks +5
  • +4800 XP (lvl 20) l +6000 XP (lvl 24) l +7500 XP (lvl 28)
  • Ascendant Material (lvl 24) l 2 Ascendant Materials (lvl 28)
  • 10 Spinmetal (lvl 20) l 12 SM (lvl 24) l 16 SM (lvl 28)

Third mission in the game, and super easy. I recommend carrying a fusion rifle here. The Lightswitch modifier is active and there are two spots where you’ll get rushed by a swarm of Thrall’s. They probably won’t kill you in one hit, but they definitely will in two. So don’t get close to them. With a fusion rifle, you can kill a few of them with one shot. Of course a high impact primary, like a handcannon or scout rifle, will drop most of the enemies in this mission with one shot if you shoot them in the head.

For the final part, you have to kill the wizard. One or two rockets, preferably solar, will down the wizard pretty fast. This is one of the easier missions in the game and shouldn’t take longer than three or four minutes, tops.

That’s all for today Guardians. The Dark Below is coming tomorrow alongside new Nightfall and Weekly Heroic, and also a new look for Destiny Daily which is going to become slightly more in-depth. See you all tomorrow.

  1. Well done on not using your Ice Breaker two missions in a row ;-)

Still enjoying reading you daily, Gary, but I’m probably going to skip the next few. I don’t know that I’m going to get into The Dark Below right away (family in town visiting this week) and I don’t need you spoiling it for me! It’s downloading right away, just not playing right away.

Keep up the good work and congrats on the SEC Championship (like there was any doubt). Nervous about that third string Buckeye quarterback? Ha!

    • I’m making video guides for the Daily Heroics that will begin being included tomorrow, and I’ve forced myself to only use legendary or rare weapons for it. Not even using Supers.

You don’t have to worry about The Dark Below spoilers from me. Only thing TDB related that I’ll be including in the posts are the bounties from Eris since I don’t think they would immediately work the new missions or strike into the Daily/Weekly rotation since not everyone is going to have it. I won’t even actually begin playing TDB content until after tomorrow’s post goes up.

Not going to take the Buckeye’s lightly. Thought Wisconsin was highly overranked, but 59-0 was impressive. Alabama will have to play A game for full 60 minutes. Should be a good one.
