Destiny Daily 12/9/14: The Dark Below Releases, Eris Morn Arrives, Take on Will of Crota in Nightfall, Daily Bounties, & Much More!

Destiny Daily

Today is the day we’ve been waiting for Guardians. It’s Tuesday again, and that means we can once again earn Marks, get loot from the Raid(s!), and we have a new Nightfall and Weekly Heroic to plow through to maybe get some sweet loot. But today isn’t just any Tuesday though. Destiny’s first expansion, The Dark Below, releases today, three months after the game released. Whether you’ve bought the expansion or not, the game is being updated and you’ll have new content, armor, and weapons to acquire.

If you purchased The Dark Below, then you’ll have a new strike to playthrough (two if you are on a PlayStation system) and a new Raid as well. There’s also new story missions, and new competitive multiplayer maps and modes.

Even if you haven’t purchased the expansion, you’ll still be greeted by a new vendor in the Tower. Her name is Eris Morn, and she’s the person all things The Dark Below goes through. She’s got bounties and quests to send you on. Completing these will increase your rank with her, and that’ll open up new gear to purchase. All players will also get five additional bounty slots. There’s even a Light Level increase to 32 (although you’ll need to complete the new raid, Crota’s End, to get there, so you’ll need the expansion to reach that level).

Eris is easy to find. When you spawn in the Tower, turn to your left and look towards the building the Speaker and some vendors are in. Instead of going in there, left to the end of the balcony overlooking the city. There you’ll find her.

All in all, it’s a very exciting day to be a Destiny fan. I’m using the day to redo the graphics and some structure for Destiny Daily. Since Eris has her own bounties, and is a permanent fixture in the Tower now, I’m including a section for her bounties as well.

Yesterday, Bungie released a hotfix in preparation for today. One of the big things it did was increase the difficulty of the Daily Heroic, Nightfall, and Weekly. Level 28 is no longer an option for the Daily Heroic, instead it’s now Level 30 (same for Nightfall and Weekly).

We have a lot to get to today, so here are the bounties for 12/9:

Vanguard Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION + REP / + EXP
Walking Tall
Complete any Strike without dying.
  +100 / +5,000
Relic Harvest – Mars

Rapidly kill 3 or more enemies with a single super use, 20 times.
  +50 / +2,500

  +100 / +5,000
Patrol the Moon
Complete 6 Patrol missions on the Moon.
 +50 / +2,500

Wonder where the sixth bounty went to. Not a bad though, although I am getting tired of seeing that Cleansing Light bounty.

Crota’s Bane Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION + REP / + EXP
Cut Them Down  Kill Hive using a Blade’s Sword on Earth.  75 / 3750
 Let’s Dance  Rapidly Kill 7 enemies with a melee attack.  75 / 3750
Boneshaker  Kill 7 Hive at once with Fist of Havoc. 75 / 3750
The Cleansing  Kill any Majors or Ultras in a Nightfall activity. 100 / 5000 / 3 MOL

Well, my Hunter doesn’t like that Boneshaker bounty. Class specific bounties are going to suck for this vendor rep grind. MOL stands for Mote of Light.

A Stranger’s Call

ISHTAR SINK, VENUS

Description:

Follow the Stranger’s corrdinates to a legendary colony lost in the jungles of Venus.

Modifiers:

HEROIC – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.

JUGGLER – No ammo drops for your equipped weapon.

Rewards:

Cryptarch Engram

+5 Vanguard Marks

XP +4800 / +6000 / +7500

Ascendant Material (lvl 26) /  +2 Ascendant Materials (lvl 30)

Destination Materials +10 / +12 / +16

This is one pretty straight forward, but I think is one of the more difficult missions in the game. After getting your sparrow turned on and activating the vex detector, head to the academy and check out the conflux. Quickly get to the top balcony (no enemies will spawn up there) and get ready for a Vex onslaught. The goblins of course are nothing, but there’s hobglobins and a lot of minotaurs as the waves progress.

Use your highest impact weapons, and rocket launchers (preferably void, but anything will do) and bring some ammo packs. The Juggler modifier will make ammo get low, and especially during the later waves, jumping down to where the enemies are to pick up ammo could easily result in death. Once you’re down there, you’re down there to stay… because you aren’t likely to get back to that top balcony unless you’re really fast and really good with the jump.

The Will of Crota

Old Russia, Earth

Description:

Omnigul, the mastermind of Crota’s armies, nests in the Cosmodrome. Eliminate this horror and purge its spawn.

Weekly Heroic Modifiers:

HEROIC – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.

ARC BURN – Arc Damage from any source is greatly increased..

Weekly Heroic Rewards:

Cryptarch Engram

+5 Vanguard Marks

XP +4800 / +6000 / +7500

Ascendant Material (lvl 24) /  +2 Ascendant Materials (lvl 28)

Destination Materials +10 / +12 / +16

Nightfall Modifiers:

EPIC – Heavily shielded and highly aggressive enemies appear in great numbers. .

LIGHTSWITCH – Minions of the Darkness deal much more melee damage.

ARC BURN – Arc Damage from any source is greatly increased.

ANGRY – Minions of the Darkness won’t flinch, even after massive damage.

NIGHTFALL – If all players die, your Fireteam is returned to Orbit.

Nightfall Rewards:

Unknown Rewards

I hate to do it, but you’re on you’re own this week. The Nightfall/Weekly is the new strike from The Dark Below, and I haven’t played it. It is at level 30, as they all will be going forward (Nightfall anyway), and you do have to complete a Dark Below missions and quests to even be able to do the strike.

Sorry.

Bear with me a little the rest of this week and some of next week as these posts may go up slightly later than they usually do. As you can notice from this one, a lot more has gone into it. Yeah there’s the added bit there for the Eris bounties, but specifically I’m talking about my own guide for how I tackle the Vanguard bounties and more in depth guide to the Daily Heroic missions complete with my own gameplay video.

From what I’ve gathered, most of the time the Daily Heroic missions will have the same modifiers each time. For example, if it’s the Scourge of Winter, it’s probably going to have the Lightswitch modifier. If it’s one of the Mars missions with the Cabal, it’s more likely to have the Angry modifier. Vex missions are more apt to have the Juggler modifier. So what I’m doing is each day I’m going to play a Daily Heroic at level 30 and upload it our YouTube channel. I’ll also write out a more detailed guide for each mission.

Once I get the video walkthrough and text guide for each mission that comes up as a Daily Heroic, I’ll be able to copy and paste in order to get the updates out in a more timely manner. Obviously would change the text based portion as needed based on the modifiers and whether or not I find a better way to do the mission. The video guides won’t change. So if the video guide features the Lightswitch modifier and the actual modifier for the mission on another day is the Juggler, it just doesn’t matter as the modifiers don’t really change the mission any. If there is a Lightswitch, then you have to be more careful. If it’s Juggler, then you’ll need to change between your three weapons more frequently.

I have more plans to expand upon this feature in the future. Say for example on Friday’s when Xur is in town, I may do more than simply list what he has for sale (and what upgrades he is offering). Tuesday’s are of course where I do the Nightfall and Weekly section. Perhaps on Wednesday’s I may begin doing a “Weapon of the Week” type thing where I review a weapon. Just things like that to add more content to these daily posts, because I enjoy playing Destiny and doing these every day.

Alright, that’s going to wrap us up for today Guardians. I spent more time on this post than I initially intended, so now it’s time for me to post it and actually go and play The Dark Below content (which I haven’t actually done anything with yet). Gotta go knock those story missions out since I’ve been craving new content. Be sure and drop a comment letting us know what you think about The Dark Below, or anything else Destiny related.
