Destiny Daily 1/5/14: Shrine of Oryx, Daily Bounties, Vanguard Roc Playlist Is Great

Destiny Daily

Welcome back Guardians to the beginning of another week of Destiny Daily. I had a really good weekend in Destiny, particularly yesterday. I finally got my Warlock up to level 30 and maxed out her Sunsinger skill tree. I also did the Daily Heroic with her and received this as a reward:

A legendary engram for a primary weapon. It’s probably going to decrypt into shards or energy, or a worthless pulse rifle.

Surprise to me! It decrypted into the exotic assault rifle Hard Light, which I did not have. So that adds to my exotic collection. I don’t use assault rifles anymore, unless I’m playing Crucible. And then I’m using my trusty Shadow Price because it has high impact, a good magazine size, great range, and high stability. So I’ll never use Hard Light, but at least I have it. Unfortunately I can probably kiss getting a Hawkmoon or a Gjallarhorn from a legendary engram good bye. After all, over 500 hours put into this game and that was the first exotic weapon I’ve gotten from a legendary engram (I’ve gotten exotic armor before).

So then I decided to run the Vanguard Roc strike playlist on my main Hunter, and this was my reward for doing a handful of strikes: Winter’s Run (x2), The Nexus, Dust Palace, The Will of Crota (x3), and Cerberus Vae III…

Every engram you see in the vault came during those strikes. And that’s not even all of them. Those I put in the vault for my Warlock. I used about eight weapon engrams (no legendary) and four chest engrams (no legendary) on my Hunter to level the Cryptarch up. Also picked up a ton of green items, and rare weapons and armor as rewards that were promptly dismantled. Saturday night I even got another legendary ship from the Roc playlist (and more engrams, but not the amount I received yesterday).

After those pictures were taken, I went back a few hours later and played about seven more strikes. Found a legendary leg engram, was rewarded with a legendary special engram, and was rewarded with another legendary leg engram. So yesterday I received seven legendary engrams. That’s been unheard of for me personally before yesterday.

How was your weekend in Destiny?

Here are the bounties for 1/5:

Vanguard Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION REP / EXP
One For All
Achieve Gold Tier Rating in Public Events.
100 / 5,000
Cleansing Light
Rapidly kill 3 or more enemies with a single super use, 20 times.
50 / 2500
Body Dropper
Kill 100 enemies without dying.
50 / 2500
TARGET: Telthor, Unborn
Defeat Telthor in the “Chamber of Night” mission on the Moon with the Heroic modifier active.
100 / 5,000
TARGET: Bracus Tha’aurn
Defeat Bracus Tha’aurn in “The Buried City” mission on Mars with the Heroic modifier active.
100 / 5,000
Patrol Mars
Complete 6 Patrol missions on Mars.
50 / 2500

One For All – Load up patrol on whichever planet you prefer (for me it’s Earth), and then go to DestinyPublicEvents.com. Public events don’t always spawn just because that site says one could be happening. Arrive a few minutes early, and give it a few minutes. If it’s not there, head to the next one.

Cleansing Light – Best do this one on The Dark Beyond (aka “We’ve woken the Hive”), because there are so many enemies around that you can quickly build up a super. Make sure you don’t kill the knight, and keep dying until you complete the bounty.

Body Dropper – You can get this one while going about your daily play fairly easy. I do this one on Earth patrol fairly quickly though, just while doing patrol missions for some extra rep. Make a couple of loots around the Steppes where you spawn at, and then make your way to the Divide, and make a few loops around that. Get it done in just a couple of minutes.

Target: Telthor, Unborn – Simply play through the Chamber of Night mission with the lowest Heroic modifier active and kill the boss. Leave right after you complete the bounty so that you’ll still have the check point the next time it comes up.

Target: Bracus Tha’aurn Simply play through the Buried City mission with the lowest Heroic modifier active and kill the boss. Leave right after you complete the bounty so that you’ll still have the check point the next time it comes up.

Patrol Mars – Simply complete six missions. You want to go after any kill the enemy, collect items from dead enemies, or kill the VIP missions that you see. If none are around, grab the scout or scan mission and prepare to travel to another zone.

Crucible Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION REP / EXP
Back Scratcher
Earn 50 Assists in the Crucible.
50 / 2500
Never See You Coming
Defeat 10 Guardians from behind.
100 / 5,000
Longshot
Defeat 15 Guardians with headshots using a Sniper Rifle.
100 / 5,000
Pull the Pin
Defeat 20 Guardians with Grenades.
50 / 2500
Stay Golden
Complete 5 Rumble Matches.
100 / 5,000
Target Practice
Earn 10 Dead Man’s Hand medals.
100 / 5,000

The Crucible playlist for today is Rumble.

Crota’s Bane Bounties

BOUNTY DESCRIPTION REP / EXP
Siege of the Warmind Defend Rasputin in the “Siege of the Warmind” mission on Earth with the Heroic modifier active. 100 / 5000
The Wakening Stop the Hive from summoning Crota’s soul in “The Wakening” on the Moon with the Heroic modifier active. 100 / 5000
Cut Them Down Kill Hive using a Blade’s sword on Earth. 75 / 3750
Bonebreaker Kill Hive Wizards with Shoulder Charge. 75 / 3750

Oh now puts out two 100 rep bounties. More of that would have been nice before I hit rank four. I can’t speak for the last one, because I’m not a Titan, but the first three are easy.

Shrine of Oryx

Ocean of Storms, Moon

Description:

  • Search the darkest corners of the Hellmouth for the fabled Shrine and destroy it.

Modifiers:

  • HEROIC – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
  • LIGHTSWITCH – Minions of the darkness deal much more melee damage.

Rewards:

Cryptarch Engram

+5 Vanguard Marks

XP + 4800 / 6000 / 7500

+1 Ascendant Material (lvl 26) 2 Ascendant Materials (lvl 30)

Destination Materials + 10 / 12 / 16

You’re going to want to avoid getting close to enemies here. I’d recommend sprinting past the first area where the Hive and the Fallen are fighting and jump over enemies if need be, if you want to get through it as quickly as possible. It’s just not necessary fight that battle. But you have to be quick and good at jumping.

Once through there though, you’ll come to an area where you’ll have to kill a Fallen Baron. He’s not really that difficult, but hit him and fast and hard with the most powerful stuff you’ve got (ideally doing arc damage to get his shield down quickly). He will teleport and hide if you take your time, and you don’t want that shield to be continuously getting put up. Don’t get too carried away on the Baron though, as there are stealth vandals here that are just waiting to one shot you thanks to the Lightswitch modifier.

After defeating the Baron, unless you just need the experience or don’t think you’re fast enough, sprint and jump your way through the rest of the mission. There isn’t another battle after the Baron that absolutely needs to be fought, so why fight unless you need to? If you go the sprint route, you still need to be aware of where the enemies are and jumping over them. There will be Dreg’s and of course Thrall’s that could be a problem. There’s also some knights, a wizard, and an orge.

Once you get past the orge, have a super, rocket, or machine gun ready. As you start to enter a little tunnel like area, a group of Thrall’s will rush at you and they’ll have a Knight behind them. You can’t really afford to get hit by any of these, so you’ll want to take them out and do so quickly.

Past that area, you’re home free. Take out the acolytes, activate the console, and wait for the large knight to appear. Pull out your best sniper rifle and shoot him in the face until he falls. There will be additional trash around him, and you’ll want to keep an eye on them and take them out when necessary. Don’t let them sneak up on you and melee you from behind. Sardok isn’t much of a threat really, as you can easily dodge his attacks, so shoot him in the face until he dies. Shouldn’t take long.

That’s all for today. I’m going to spend more time today doing the Roc playlist and will see if I have similar results as yesterday. Tomorrow is the weekly reset, and we all look forward to that. Each week I do the Nightfall or get chests from the raid and think it’s going to Gjallarhorn or it’s going to be Hawkmoon, and each time I get disappointed. It’s going to happen this week though.

See you all tomorrow morning.
