Destiny Daily 1/14/15: Nightfall Loot Tables Seriously Need Adjusting, Iron Banner Thoughts, Daily Bounties, More

Destiny Daily

I once wrote a piece about how bad the Nightfall rewards were because I constantly got less strange coins than I would get for doing the Weekly Heroic. This week however absolutely sucked for me when it comes to the Nightfall. I’ve completed it with two of my characters so far, and have no desire to do it with the third. My main hunter, level 32, received seven Ascendant Shards. My 31 Warlock received 11 Ascendant Shards. Bungie made Ascendant Shards completely worth less to highlevel players. The only way to level 32 is through raid gear, and that takes Radiant Shards. So my already large collection of Ascendant Shards has gotten much bigger. What am I suppose to do with them? I can’t trade them for anything. I don’t need them to upgrade anything anymore. They’re completely worthless to me, and for most other players over level 30.

The Nightfall loot table needs to be overhauled. Ascendant Materials come from the Vault of Glass, dismantling legendary gear, rewards from the postmaster package after completing your first daily public event, a drop during public events, from the cryptarch, for leveling up a faction, randomly in chests if you’re lucky, and through the Daily Heroic story. There is no shortage of ways to get Ascendant Materials. I would like to meet the person who, after The Dark Below released, has said “I sure hope I get some Ascendant Shards for doing the Nightfall.” No one has said that. That’s not a reward for doing something that is “very hard,” it’s a joke. It’s a waste of time.

The Nightfall should not reward Ascendant Materials in any number. Nor strange coins (or any other item classified as “rare”). It shouldn’t even drop legendary engrams, because we all know 8 out of 10 times it’s just going to turn into either two or three Ascendant materials. It should be a guaranteed weapon or piece of armor; any legendary or exotic. Something that might be of use.

And while I’m ranting here, the Iron Banner is still a joke. Why are they so afraid to make it what it ought to be? Level advantages still don’t mean anything. Maybe if someone level 20-24 is in against a 32, but that’s it. I haven’t played against anyone in that range in quite sometime in the Crucible. I’m level 32; 1626 defense with maxed armor (in the class skill tree), using a 331 Suros. A level 28 person using a pre-DLC 300 fusion rifle shouldn’t be able to eat my Suros bullets and one shot me from mid range. It’s stupid.

It’s really about time Bungie decides to actually do something new and different with the game. The Iron Banner isn’t an “event” anymore. It’s a monthly joke where you can grind to reach rank five so you can get the same weapons you have already have, or gear you probably don’t need. If you’re going to continuously trot it out, at least have the decency to include new exclusive weapons, shaders that actually look decent, ships, and armor that might be useful.

For a game that was advertised as something where everyone would be different and folks would wonder where a person got that gear or weapon from, Bungie seems hellbent on making sure everyone has the same stuff and largely look the same (within the class, obviously). How about an “event” for the folks who like PVE. Yeah Queen’s Wrath sucked. Not simply because we were tasked with playing the same missions we had already played a dozen times before, but rather because the gear (which was useful at the time to a lot of us) was made worthless by not being able to be sharded. I did the bounties to get the tokens to do the missions to have a chance at getting the helmet, and yet I got five chest armor to which Bungie said “sorry, you can’t get shards from that… it’d ruin the economy.”

Give the PVE players something. What am I suppose to do with my Vanguard marks? Buy armor I don’t need? Buy weapons I already have or that have horrible perk rolls (with the exception of LDR sniper rifle, which is great)? Buy planetary materials that I don’t need? They cap the Marks at 200 and then give us absolutely nothing to spend them on.

Destination Materials + 10 / 12 / 16

This one is a straight forward descent into the Hellmouth. As always, the lightswitch modifier needs you need to keep enemies (especially thrall’s) in front of you at all times. Depending on your level and the difficulty you select, you probably won’t die from one thrall hit, but why risk it? Just don’t let them get close.

It ends up in the small arena where you’ll have to survive the Hive while waiting for your Ghost to do what it’s doing. This means a few waves of thrall’s, cursed thrall’s, acolytes, wizards, and of course knights. It’s not a problem, just take down enemies quickly and don’t let them close.

If you got anything decent from the Nightfall, or anything else, let us know.

That’s all for today.
