Destiny Daily 1/16/15: Xur Is Selling The Ice Breaker, Defend Rasputin, Daily Bounties

Destiny Daily

It’s Friday, and that means Xur has arrived in the tower once again to sell his exotic wares. Unfortunately, he didn’t bring the weapon I wanted, but he did bring a weapon that a ton of others wanted. You definitely want to buy the Ice Breaker if you don’t already have it. I bought two just to avoid passing my fully upgraded one to my other characters.

There will be a patch to Destiny next Tuesday. Bungie hasn’t detailed anything about it yet, saying they’ll release the patch notes when the patch goes live. One thing for sure that it’s doing is paving the way for Crota’s End Hard Mode, which will become available on Wednesday at 12pm CT.

Not going to waste anymore time, so let’s get right to it. First up, Xur’s black market:

Xur’s Exotics

EXOTIC GEAR:

  • The Glasshouse – Titan Helmet
    • Intellect 122
  • Achlyophage Symbiote – Hunter Helmet
    • Discipline 112
  • Obsidian Mind – Warlock Helmet
    • Intellect 53 / Strength 54
  • Ice Breaker – Sniper Rifle
  • Exotic Shard

CURIOS

  • Scout Rifle Telemetry
  • Hand Cannon Telemetry
  • Shotgun Telemetry
  • Plasma Drive
  • Stealth Drive

Xur can be found down stairs beside the Crucible Quartermaster. If you don’t have Ice Breaker, BUY IT! It is absolutely one of, if not THE, best guns in the game. I already one, well two actually. One of them is a 300 attack version that hadn’t been fully upgraded. So I sharded that one and bought two more, so now all three of my characters can have one.

These are the items that Xur has available to upgrade for the original item, 7000+ Glimmer, and an Exotic Shard:

  • Achylophage Symbiote – Hunter Helmet
    • Discipline 103
  • Lucky Raspberry – Hunter Chest
    • Intellect 166
  • Crest of Alpha Lupi – Titan Chest
    • Intellect 136
  • No Backup Plans – Titan Gauntlets
    • Strength 83
  • Skull of Dire Ahamkara – Warlock Helmet
    • Intellect 118
  • Light Beyond Nemesis – Warlock Helmet
    • Strength 108
  • Bad Juju – Pulse Rifle
  • The Last Word – Hand Cannon
  • Plan C – Fusion Rifle
  • Pocket Infinity – Fusion Rifle
  • Thunderlord – Machine Gun
  • Gjallarhorn – Rocket Launcher

Going to upgrade my Thunderlord. Getting tired of the Gjallarhorn being there. We get it, those lucky enough to have it before the DLC hit have had plenty of chances to upgrade it now. Sell it and stop offering it to be upgraded.

This is one of The Dark Below story missions, so if you don’t have the DLC you can’t do the Daily Heroic today. It’s also only available in level 30 form.

I think this one is the hardest mission in the game. Getting to Rasputin is absolutely nothing. But once you stand in front of his controls and Omnigul spawns, things start to get chaotic. There’s a lot going on here and you need to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Thrall’s will rush you and there’s also the exploding thrall’s. Also acolytes, knights, and hallowed knights. But the biggest pain of all is the hallowed wizards who put the green circles on the ground that you definitely don’t want to get caught standing on. And finally, a big ogre.

If you can, jump up on top of Rasputin, the big thing hanging above the arena. There’s a ghost up there anyway (there’s also a ghost under the controls as well). It’s hard to shoot things from up there, but it’s doable. It’s the safest approach. I like to get behind the controls though. You’re not safe there, by any means, but it’s the easiest area to defend yourself without having to worry about something spawning on you. Priority number one though is taking down the wizards as fast as possible, including Omnigul at the start (shoot her a few times in the head, and get her out of the way).

So, what did you buy from Xur, if anything? Ice Breaker is the most valuable gun in the game, especially for cheesers since it allows you to stay in some spot where you can attack and not be attacked and snipe as much as you want without having to worry about ammo. It’s a life safer during Nightfalls and anything with the Juggler modifier, plus its really good in strikes and raids. I even use it during the lamps section because the explosion can take out large groups.

I finally replaced my trusty old The Devil You Know hand cannon yesterday. I’m going to give it to my Warlock for now. My main character is now rocking TFWPKY 1969. Same rate of fire, Impact, and Stability as TDYK, slightly more range, less reload speed, and it’s 331 attack. I bought it from Crucible Quartermaster,  so its perks are Return to Sender and Mulligan, and I have Field Scout (although I may switch to Flared Magwell). I know a lot of folks don’t like Return to Sender and Mulligan because they don’t produce enough. But if every kill return bonus ammo directly to the magazine then it would be an overpowered gun in PVE because it one shots almost all unshielded red bar enemies. From my experience on this one (I have it fully upgraded already thanks to telemetries and passing it around my characters) and my old Red Hand XI, Return to Sender gives me a few extra shots each time. With Field Scout I have 13 rounds; when each bullet kills I usually get 16 and rarely even 17 shots before needing to reload. That’s good enough for me, and that’s why I may switch to Flared Magwell. If you don’t have TFWPKY 1969, get it. You need to be rank 3 in the Crucible and it costs 150 Crucible Marks.

That’s all for today. As always, no Destiny Daily during the weekend, so I’ll see you all Monday morning. Go enjoy your Ice Breakers.
