Destiny Daily 1/22/15: Defend Rasputin, Daily Bounties

Destiny Daily

So Crota’s End Hard Mode dropped yesterday, and I was able to solo the first two sections twice. I want the assault rifle that drops from the bridge, so of course I got the pulse rifle from abyss and nothing but shards, energies, and another pair of Warlock boots from the bridge. Bungie, don’t patch it until I get the assault rifle and a chest piece for my other Hunter. That cheese isn’t hurting anyone, focus on the more important issues until I get what I need, then you can do what want.

Speaking of soloing hard mode, I’ll have to put up a video of my strategy as a Hunter. I first did it as I normally would as a Hunter, and got blasted by the Major Ogre. So I looked on YouTube to see any hard mode solo videos that may be up, and saw a Titan using his bubble, and Hunter’s and Warlock’s using Gjallarhorns to kill the Ogre, or Hunger of Crota + Icebreaker. Well I don’t have either of those rocket launchers, and the Ice Breaker alone wasn’t going to kill him. So I improvised and came up with a strategy to not kill the Ogre. I sat on the rock right behind/beside the plate that forms the bridge. I was using blade dancer and Patience and Time. Crouch, go invisible, count to seven, stand and aim, count to seven, crouch, repeat. The Ogre came all the way out into the open and never really saw me (i.e. he never started trying to blast me). I kept doing that until the path forward was clear.

I also ran the Nightfall with my Warlock (using my Oversoul’s Edict), and downed Phogoth as easily as I’ve ever done it in a Nightfall (I didn’t even leave the second cheese room). Outside of the initial confrontation to break his chains, I never even went in the room that the shrieker spawns in. So I never got any Knights or anything to come stand in the doorway. I stayed in the second room and sniped, because Phogoth came over and got into perfect position. He could “see” me, and thus he spent the whole encounter shooting at me and doing nothing but hitting a rock. He never moved, so I was free to light him up with Patience and Time + Oversoul’s Edict the entire time from perfect safety. It was the very definition of cheese. And my reward was another Skull of Dire Ahamkara with way worse stats than the one Warlock uses so I instantly dismantled it.

This is one of The Dark Below story missions, so if you don’t have the DLC you can’t do the Daily Heroic today. It’s also only available in level 30 form.

I think this one is the hardest mission in the game. Getting to Rasputin is absolutely nothing. But once you stand in front of his controls and Omnigul spawns, things start to get chaotic. There’s a lot going on here and you need to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Thrall’s will rush you and there’s also the exploding thrall’s. Also acolytes, knights, and hallowed knights. But the biggest pain of all is the hallowed wizards who put the green circles on the ground that you definitely don’t want to get caught standing on. And finally, a big ogre.

If you can, jump up on top of Rasputin, the big thing hanging above the arena. There’s a ghost up there anyway (there’s also a ghost under the controls as well). It’s hard to shoot things from up there, but it’s doable. It’s the safest approach. I like to get behind the controls though. You’re not safe there, by any means, but it’s the easiest area to defend yourself without having to worry about something spawning on you. Priority number one though is taking down the wizards as fast as possible, including Omnigul at the start (shoot her a few times in the head, and get her out of the way).

Did you run Crota’s End Hard Mode yesterday? If so, did you beat it? Let us know what you got so I can jelly of any you who got the Word of Crota. Xur arrives back in the tower tomorrow, and he made a lot of folks very happy last week by selling the Ice Breaker (what I personally think is the best all around exotic gun the game). Now let the Nine make me happy by selling a Gjallarhorn. Come on Xur, you can do it.

That’s all for today, we’ll be back tomorrow morning.
