Now Gaming: What We’re Playing This Week (February Week 3)

It’s that time of the week again, where we divulge what we’re playing this week and ask you what you’re playing. This week our panel of sorts consists of three folks: Brian, Jules, and GamingJess. I’m sitting this week out because the only thing I’m playing enough this week even worth mentioning is Destiny, and well I didn’t really feel the need to say anything else about it at the moment. On the bright side of Destiny, I did finally get not just one Hawkmooon, but two of them. And the Crota’s End helmet, two Hunger of Crota’s, two Abyss Defiant’s, and a Praedyth’s Revenge.

So with that out of the way, here’s what we’re playing this week.

Mass Effect 2 (360)

I had considered playing ME2 back at the time when I started Rainbow Six: Vegas, but opted to go with a game I thought I would beat quicker and also, I hadn’t played a FPS in a while. With Rainbow Six out of the way, I’m finally free to get back to saving the galaxy. I had messed around with this a little bit a long time ago when I first got it, but stopped before I became too immersed into the game play and story that I wouldn’t be able to get out(yeah, I turned that thing off quick). I just started a new game, importing my first save from ME1 where I reached level 49 and was a heavy lean towards Paragon. My second ME1 play through was more Renegade and I was able to build Shepard up to level 59, and yes, I will be using that one on my second play through of ME2. Not very far in yet, still working my way through the Cerberus facility and learning about Project Lazarus(would be further along if I didn’t get two phone calls back to back in the middle of my playing. Game looks great even now. I was fumbling with the controls a little bit, but was already getting back into the swing of things by the time I turned it off.

Also Playing: Madden 25, NHL 2K7

NBA 2k12 (PS3)

I don’t even remember when or where I bought this game and I am ashamed of myself for waiting this long to finally open it up and give it some play time. I have always been a big devotee of basketball games, my favorite one back in the day was NBA 2k03, which was around the time I transgressed into becoming more of a lapsed gamer to financial/time reasons. I have also dabbled with a few newer entries such as 2k07 which I did not care for all that much. This game however blew me away. The graphics are just top notch, so much so that is possible to rewatch a game here on CPU demo mode and totally forget you are watching a video game every now and then. The controls are very intuitive. I never once looked at the instructions, just fired it up and learned quickly as I went.

The commentary is also much improved, with all the announcers having customized talking points for each team and every player of any real significance name wise. The season mode is pretty much the same as ever, although with added GM features and whatnot. I haven’t explored every feature yet, and have only dabbled in the legends mode. One thing I do not like is the imposed salary cap which I have not been able to turn off. I like that it is there as it adds realism, however just like with in-game sliders I wish I could turn it off if I wanted to in order to just have a complete dream team fantasy world type season which is kind of the point with these games. As it was, I was able to take the 2012 Miami Heat which still had the big three of Wade, Bosh, and James and add on Derek Rose at point guard and Roy Hibbert at center. Ain’t nobody beating that team. Except the 97 Bulls, but that’s another story.

Also Playing: WWE 2k14, Sonic All Star Racing Transformed, Tetris N-Blox,

Resident Evil 4 (PS3)

I played this game forever ago on PS2 and it was probably the first video game that I REALLY loved. So we recently bought the remastered version and I’m excited to enjoy it all over again. I finally started it up yesterday, and quickly realized how hard it is! The controls are simple and primitive so it’s going to take a lot of getting used to. On the plus side the graphics are so much better and I really just can’t wait to dive back into the story. Also, I noticed many similarities it shares with The Evil Within (same director) which makes TEW so much more awesome!

Also Playing: Still playing Dying Light

Now that you know what games we’re enjoying this week, it’s time for you to tell us which games you’re playing. Be sure to drop us a line letting us know which games (and why) in the comments below.

Until next week, game on!
