Destiny Daily 3/16/15: The Return, Iron Banner Begins Again Tomorrow

Destiny Daily

It’s been a month since the last Destiny Daily, but even though I haven’t been doing these I’ve still been playing just as much Destiny as before. It’s still something I play, and enjoy, every single day.

I have a bit of a new approach to Destiny. I still haven’t gotten Gjallarhorn, or Black Hammer after about 20 attempts. I did however finally beat Crota hard mode with a group of friends and friends of friends, none of whom had beaten hard mode before. I was the sword carrier for the team, and that was very exciting. I got the Word of Crota from it, which was the weapon I wanted (of course I want all of them, but I wanted that one more so).

I’ve reached level 32 on my hunter, warlock, and finally titan. My hunter and warlock are “true” 32’s, that being they have the entire set of raid gear. My titan still needs the helmet.

My new approach is that I just no longer care about Gjallarhorn. I’m not doing Nightfalls and being disappointed when it doesn’t drop (having said that, I was very disappointed last week when I did the nightfall four times- I deleted my titan and made a new one- and received Ascendant Energy three of those times). I’ll get it when the game decides to drop it for me, and until then I’m done even hoping for it.

Instead, I’m setting goals for myself that are a little more controllable. For example, I’ve turned my attention on Dead Orbit. For some unknown reason, although probably because I don’t play a lot of crucible, I’ve been a Vanguard guy while largely ignoring the factions. My Vanguard rank is like 22, while my crucible rank is at 3, Dead Orbit is at 6, Future War Cult is at 6, and New Monarchy is at 5. Now I’m working on Dead Orbit. Yes, I hope to get a Dead Orbit shader or a ship, but more controllable for me is I want the complete collection of Sojourn armor from them. I currently have none, but that’s because I don’t have a lot of Crucible marks.

I’m maxing out all of my weapons, and paying closer attention to perk rolls. I’m finally collecting all of the exotic armor and maxing it all out. I’m paying more attention to armor stats, and trying to get better rolls.

Previously I would just wear the highest light armor I could regardless of what I was doing. That’s been the Crota gear and an exotic (or just all Crota gear). I’m not doing that anymore. I’ll wear my Crota gear while I do Crota’s End and possible Vault of Glass (until I get the complete collection of that, even-though there is no real tangible benefit to being 32 during that raid), but I’m not going to wear it for other stuff. I’m looking to get a level 31 armor with stats focused on discipline and strength for when I play PvP, and a different set focused on strength and intellect for doing general PvE stuff.

I’m looking for ammo with increased ammo for hand cannons, pulse rifles, and sniper rifles, and faster reloading times too. The raid gear with its over-soul focused perks or carrying the sword don’t help me any outside of the Crota raid.

The Iron Banner begins tomorrow, and this time I’m setting a goal for myself to actually play it and not get so frustrated (I typically get mad because even when I do extremely well, my team still loses and I get nothing). I want to hit rank five. I’ve previously never gotten above rank two. I want the armor, and I want the weapons. It may be a grind, but it’s a grind that I can control and know that these items I can get with out necessarily relying on RNG (although weapons I want will certainly be dependent on a random drop since they won’t be sold).

I’ve even started back doing the Daily Heroics on at least one character. No I don’t need Ascendant materials that much, and the Daily doesn’t award weapon XP, but I’ll still do it.

In fact, I’ve gotta say that I’m enjoying Destiny just as much today as I was back in September when it was still new. And for that reason, I felt like it was time to bring back Destiny Daily, instead of waiting for whenever House of Wolves comes out.

Now there are some changes being made; it’s not going to be the same as it was before. After all, I didn’t quite doing this daily series because I was tired of playing the game, I did it because I was tired of doing the series the way that I was doing it.

For example, the daily guide is gone. By this point, I think most people playing have done these missions enough to know how to play the daily, which isn’t remotely hard in the first place. The modifiers for these never change either, so if you do The Black Garden, then you know it’ll always be the Juggler modifier. There may or may not be commentary-less walkthrough videos on certain days. The nightfall guide will be a little more condensed than previously, basically “this is what it is, this is a good strategy, and this is how you cheese it.”

This one is of course much longer than these will typically be, especially the intro, and that’s just because this is the first one in a month. What I’m probably going to end up doing is “themed” days. That means the bulk of the content each day will be on something other than the bounties and the daily heroic.

At any rate, here are the bounties for 3/16:

Vanguard Bounties

  • Exalted Hive – Kill 10 Hive Majors or Ultras.
  • Fallen Leaders – Kill 10 Fallen Majors or Ultras.
  • Relic Harvest Cosmodrome – Collect 200 Sensor Mites in Cosmodrome.
  • Walking Tall – Complete any Strike without dying.
  • TARGET: Grayliks, Winter Baron – Defeat Grayliks in “The Archive” mission on Venus with the Heroic modifier active.
  • Patrol Cosmodrome – Complete 6 Patrol missions in the Cosmodrome.

Crucible Bounties

  • Light the Way – Defeat 15 Guardians using a Super.
  • Pull The Pin – Defeat 20 Guardians with Grenades.
  • Stay Golden – Complete 5 Rumble Matches.
  • Stopping Power – Earn 10 Buckshot Bruiser medals.
  • Target Practice – Earn 10 Dead Man’s Hand medals.
  • The Wild Hunt – Defeat 25 Hunters in the Crucible.

The Daily Crucible playlist for today is Skirmish.

Crota’s Bane Bounties

  • Cut Them Down – Kill Hive using a Blade’s sword on Earth.
  • Illuminator – Generate Orbs of Light.
  • Purifier – Kill 7 Hive at once with Nova Bomb.

“Break the House of Devils’ grasp on the Cosmodrome and secure a vital link to the Golden Age.”

The Warmind – Cosmodrome

Modifiers

  • Heroic
  • Lightswitch

Rewards

  • Cryptarch Engram
  • Spinmetal +10/12/16
  • Ascendant Materials +1/2
  • Vanguard Marks +5
  • XP Bonus +4800/6000/7500

So that’s the return of Destiny Daily. Future ones won’t have an intro that long, and like I said I’ll be incorporating daily themes at some point soon. That’ll be something like weapon of the week, ideas for Destiny, and things like that.

The world resets tomorrow, and with it comes the Iron Banner again. I plan on doing the Nightfall first thing on my Hunter, and then some Vanguard bounties, but after that the bulk of playing will be in the Iron Banner (assuming it doesn’t end up like it always does for me). I have no Iron Banner armor or weapons, because I’ve never played that much of it. I’m going to change that this time around… hopefully.
