Destiny Daily 5/11/15: The Return of Destiny Daily, One More Week Until House of Wolves

Destiny Daily

Ladies and gentlemen, Guardians from all over, the wait is almost over. One week from tomorrow Destiny’s second expansion, House of Wolves, will release and a lot of us will be enjoying new story missions and quests, new gear, new PVP maps, a new strike, a new PVP mode and weekly event, and of course a new PVE end-game activity with four different difficultly levels. We’ll be striving to get Etheric Light so that we can ascend our favorite legendary armor to the new Light Level of 34 and our weapons to attack value 365. And we’ll be chasing after all new armor and weapons.

It’s all very exciting, and I for one am stoked to finally get some new content. And what appears to be a substantial amount of content at that, and just as important, quality of life fixes to the core of the Destiny experience as well. That’s why Destiny Daily is back, and not just for a trial run like I did back in March… Destiny Daily is BACK each and every week day.

A LOT has happened since I last did Destiny Daily. I still don’t have a Gjallarhorn, but I did finally get a Hawkmoon, Fatebringer, Vex Mythoclast, Black Hammer, Fang of Ir Yut, Praetorian Foil, and so on. In fact, I now have everything from Crota, and everything from the Vault of Glass except for Praedyth’s Timepiece. The only exotic weapon I need is Gjallarhorn. I’ve even solo’d Crota (normal), which is something I had wanted to do since I first seen it done. I also stuck through the Iron Banner to rank 5 last time to buy the helmet (Hunter), two Timur’s Lash and three Efrideet’s Spear (rerolled to have one of each elemental damage).

I will be changing some things up with Destiny Daily this time around. For example, when the reset happens tomorrow there won’t be a guide for the Nightfall/Heroic included as I used to do. Instead, there will be a separate post put up called Destiny Weekly. Destiny Daily will be for my thoughts and ideas for Destiny, as well as a rundown of the daily activities (Daily Heroic, bounties, PVP playlist, etc.). Destiny Weekly, on the other hand, will be only about things that can only be completed (for rewards) once per week per character; Nightfall, Weekly Heroic, Raids, and Prison of Elders.

On Friday’s there will be two separate posts from the Daily. One will be a full rundown (and my thoughts) on what Xur is selling. The other, once House of Wolves drops, will be going over the week’s Trials of Osiris event (what map it is, what the vendor is selling, and some tips).

It’s all to get more Destiny content on the site in shorter dosages with the relevant information getting to you, the readers, when you need it without a lot of other stuff being in the way.

I actually had one person email me a few weeks after I stopped doing Destiny Daily asking if I still played the game since I was no longer writing about it. The answer to that has always been an absolute yes. I’ve played Destiny for at least 20 minutes every single day since the game released last September. Since I stopped doing Destiny Daily, my raiding increased dramatically to the point where my group and I now routinely scour the Tower in search of people who have never done a raid to take them through with the hopes that they’ll get some gear. Most folks ignore our invites, but some of have taken us up on the offer and experienced their first raids with a friendly group and made some new friends in the process. I’ve enjoyed Destiny more in the last two months waiting on House of Wolves than at any point prior, which is saying something because I’ve enjoyed the hell out of this game since first playing the Alpha.

I stopped writing the Daily purely because I was tired of copying and pasting the same stuff every day, not because I was tired of playing the game. Now, with new content on the way, I have a renewed interest in writing about my favorite game on a daily basis. Not just writing, but I’ve also began streaming a little more frequently on my new Twitch account PatriotPaine. I also plan on doing more video content for the site on our YouTube channel.

We’re just a day over a week away from the release of House of Wolves, and that means the banner above will be changing on Tuesday. You can already see what the new header image is by looking to the right sidebar.

With all of that said, and note that this intro is much longer than these will be going forward, it’s time to get into the whole point of Destiny Daily. Here’s the rundown of activities for May 11th.

Vanguard Bounties

  • Predator and Prey – Kill 20 enemies without taking damage from them. [ 50 Rep / 2,500 XP ]
  • Relic Harvest – Collect 200 Olympus Tears on Mars.  [ 50 Rep / 2,500 XP ]
  • Overcharge – Kill 2 enemies at once with a Fusion Rifle, 20 times. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Knuckleduster – Melee kill 30 enemies without dying. [ 50 Rep / 2,500 XP ]
  • Target: Prohibitive Mind – Defeat the Prohibitive Mind in the ‘A Rising Tide’ mission on Mars with the Heroic modifier active.  [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Patrol Venus – Complete 6 Patrol missions on Venus. [ 50 Rep / 2,500 XP, 10 Spirit Bloom ]

Not a bad day for Vanguard bounties. I obviously would have liked to have seen more 100 Rep bounties, but these are all easy and can be done quickly. I used to hate the Overcharge bounty, as it just meant that I’d have to fire up The Dark Beyond mission on the moon and pull out a fusion rifle that I didn’t like, shoot thrall, die, and shoot thrall again. Now I just use the Vex Mythoclast while in patrol or doing another bounty and knock it out quickly.

Crucible Bounties

  • Shake the Pillars – Defeat 25 Titans in the Crucible. [ 75 Rep / 3,750 XP ]
  • The Wild Hunt – Defeat 25 Hunters in the Crucible. [ 75 Rep / 3,750 XP ]
  • First Blood – Earn 3 First Blood medals. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • All For One – Complete 5 Skirmish Matches. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Stopping Power – Kill 15 Guardians with a Shotgun. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Revengeance – Earn 5 Postmortem medals. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]

The Crucible playlist for today is Skirmish, which is perfect as it allows you to get the XP bonus while completing the All For One bounty. This is a very easy day for Crucible bounties, and the only one that is likely to take some time is the First Blood bounty.

Crota’s Bane Bounties

  • Blades of Crota – Hunt the Knights who serve as Blades of Crota on Earth and the Moon. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Cut Them Down – Kill Hive using a Blade’s sword on Earth. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Illuminator – Generate Orbs of Light. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]
  • Light the Dark – Rapidly Kill 10 Hive with Grenade abilities while under the effect of Radiance. [ 100 Rep / 5,000 XP ]

I have stopped doing Eris bounties (aside from the weekly Cleansing one for the three Motes of Light) unless I need a weapon upgraded quickly. I’ve hit rank four with her on two of my three characters. Once House of Wolves drops, I’ll be replacing this Eris section with the Queen’s Wrath bounties.

Exclusion Zone

Meridian Bay, Mars

“Survive the military power of the Cabal and find the Gate to the Black Garden.”

  • Heroic – Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
  • Angry – Minions of the Darkness won’t flinch, even after massive damage.

Level 22:

  • Cryptarch Engram
  • 10 Relic Iron
  • 5 Vanguard Marks
  • 4,800 XP

Level 26:

  • Ascendant Material
  • Cryptarch Engram
  • 12 Relic Iron
  • 5 Vanguard Marks
  • 6,000 XP

Level 30:

  • 2 Ascendant Materials
  • Cryptarch Engram
  • 16 Relic Iron
  • 5 Vanguard Marks
  • 7,500 XP

The Phalanx’s can certainly be annoying with the Angry modifier, but this is a pretty easy mission and an excellent way to farm some Glimmer. Make sure you grab the Relic Harvest bounty before going into this mission, because with all of the majors that appear here you will knock it out before you even get half way through the mission

Tomorrow is a big day for Destiny. Patch 1.2 will release tomorrow sometime after 12pm CT. This patch is the final preparation for House of Wolves next week, but is also bringing world changes. We know that means the changes to the Crucible, with rewards dropping more often and doubling of marks earned during a match. Will the patch include the Speaker’s material exchange, or will we have to wait another week for that? We’ll find out when the patch notes hit, which of course will be posted right here on this site. A lot of us are also curious to see if a new patrol world event happens, similar to the Blades of Crota that began appearing shortly before the release of The Dark Below (which no longer spawn outside of the Fist of Crota mission, which is a bummer).

Tomorrow isn’t just patch day though, it’s also reset day. More importantly, it’s the beginning of the final week to do what you have to do to prepare for the release of the House of Wolves. I plan on maxing my marks across my characters, and saving up only the Cryptarch packages that I earn this week. What are you doing to prepare for the House of Wolves? Do let me know in the comments below.

That’s going to do it for today’s Destiny Daily. I’ll be back tomorrow with Destiny Daily (AND Destiny Weekly), as I will be every week day for the foreseeable future. New content is almost hear Guardians, and it’s a very exciting time. The wait is almost over.
