It’s the last day of August, Guardians. Tomorrow not only begins a new week in Destiny, but it’ll also be September 1st and that means the countdown is officially on. One week from tomorrow, Patch 2.0 will drop and that’ll include a lot of stuff to be excited about ahead of The Taken King’s release the following week. We’ll have all of the year one content questified, and we’ll also have the new Nolan North voiced Ghost taking over. If you like Dinklebot, make sure you spend a little more this week running through story missions, as next week you’ll never again get to hear Peter Dinklage’s version of Ghost outside of old video footage. Give him a proper send off; grind The Dark Within on Earth in hopes of hearing the classic “that wizard came from the moon!” Go wake the hive on the Moon in the The Dark Beyond mission. Run Winter’s Run strike and listen to old Dinklebot yell out “A CELL, FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS!” one more time. And according to Luke Smith, we’ll also have the new leveling system activated meaning we’ll be able to get to level 40.
Those are of course all big changes that the majority of us are looking forward to. But that’s not the only thing to be excited about when Patch 2.0 drops. For those of us who like spoilers, the databases should be updated with lots of new weapons and gear for us to marvel at and begin thinking about what we want the most. And of course, for those of us who like the Crucible, the weapon balance is included. Enjoy your Thorn and shotguns with shotpackage and range boosters this week while you still can. Next week, auto rifles will return and my Shadow Price has been waiting patiently.
On the Destiny Daily front, it has been a while hasn’t it? While I wasn’t writing about Destiny on the site much (any) recently, you better believe I’ve still been playing the game every single day. And still loving every second of it. I did finally get a Gjallarhorn… when Xur sold it. Aweek later, one finally dropped for me as a Crucible reward. Go figure. The thing that really made me mad though was that I created a secondary PSN account to play on occasionally. Once I got to level 31, I ran Prison of Elders 32 and my exotic reward for opening the chest for the first time on that character was Gjallarhorn. This was just days before Xur sold it. So yeah, I got Gjallarhorn on a throwaway account that I had played on for 11 hours or so, and couldn’t get it on my main account that I have over 1,200 hours on. And that’s just one of the reasons I laugh when people talk about having earned something in Destiny.
I also now have a YouTube channel that isn’t TheVortexEffect channel, so go check it out; it’s PatriotPaineVE. Right now there’s just Crucible videos, but once The Taken King comes out, I’ll be posting PVE content as well.
Here are the bounties for 8/31:

That’s going to wrap up the return edition of Destiny Daily. I’ll have to tinker with the format once Taken King drops and there’s all the new bounties and weekly bounties, and quests. In the past I’ve done videos in the Daily Heroic section, but there wasn’t a video for each one and they were level 30 anyway. So once The Taken King releases, I’ll start doing the Daily Heroic everyday and record each mission that comes up, and that’ll serve as the new updated video guide for the section. Of course those videos will be posted on my new YouTube channel.
If you haven’t done the Weekly Heroic Strike yet, you might want to do that. Of course when The Taken King comes out the Weekly Heroic is going away in favor of a Heroic Strike Playlist, and that will not reward Strange Coins. So if you have three characters, you’ll no long be guaranteed an easy 27 Strange Coins a week, so go ahead and add to the stock pile. Having said that, both Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy from Bungie have confirmed that Strange Coins will drop more frequently from other activities to make up for it, and whenever you get a faction package you’ll get something like 5 Motes of Light and 5 Strange Coins in addition to a guaranteed legendary item.
I’ll be back tomorrow to detail the weekly reset as we inch ever so closer to the release of patch 2.0 on September 8th and the beginning of Year 2 in Destiny, and of course The Taken King’s release on September 15th.
We’ll close with this; Bungie just released the official launch trailer for The Taken King, and it’s pretty awesome. Check it out below:
