Dumb and Dumber To Review

Dumb and Dumber To Review

Watching this film is like going to a high school reunion and getting cornered by that guy who was the class clown twenty years ago, and discovering he has not changed his clothes, or bothered to learn any new material in the intervening decades.

You find you are amused just by their appearance and the nostalgia factor for a bit, but you quickly make an excuse to split the scene as soon as you are able. Carrey and Daniels are both fine actors who have done great work and I hope will continue to do so. I’m sure this was a nice payday for them, and a good chance to re-live some old memories, but really, that’s about all it is.

This movie wears out its’ welcome fairly quickly. I saw the original “Dumb and Dumber “when I was about twelve, and loved it. It was the third major smash hit film in a breakthrough year for Jim Carrey that had already saw the first Ace Ventura film, and The Mask.

That movie was stupid and charming. This movie is just stupid.

There are some laughs here and there, and some nice nods to the original film as well that made me smile, but on the whole I felt like “Dumb and Dumber To” never truly established a reason for it to exist in the first place.

I was perfectly content waving goodbye to these characters twenty years ago as they blew a once and a lifetime opportunity to ride aboard a tour bus full of bikini models to instead continue hitch hiking down their own personal highway of obliviousness.

The Farrelly’s (who made the second greatest movie ever made about bowling), are also capable of solid work occasionally are lifeless here, simply rehashing the same gags from the first movie and ramping up the obnoxiousness.

Dumb and Dumber To gets a two out of five: FORGETTABLE.
