Smith’s Sentiment: This film noir is based on the true story of mob murder of Albert Patterson, Alabama Attorney General who had run on a platform of cleaning up the organized crime ridden sin city of Phenix City.

Growing up not far outside of Phenix City, I’ve heard all the stories about how bad Phenix City was back in the 50s and before. So as this is a local true story and filmed on location in Phenix City, it is a no brainer for my TCM Movie of the Week.

It doesn’t hurt that it is also a great, classic film noir, so if you’re into noir do be sure to check this one out when it airs on TCM on Saturday, January 9th.
