Bungie is set to officially reveal the next Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron, tomorrow via a stream on Twitch at 12pm CT. However, the studio has seen a number of “leaks” today, the latest of which spilled the beans on a number of details. The following comes from the Rise of Iron expansion page from the Xbox Store:
Destiny: Rise of Iron is the next highly anticipated expansion to the Destiny universe. The wall which stood for centuries along the southern border of Old Russia has collapsed. Fallen mutants now scavenge the tombs of the Golden Age, and the plague they have unearthed in the wastes is more dangerous than even they understand. Join Lord Saladin. Journey into the Plaguelands. Learn the fate of the Iron Lords and stop the growing threat before it is too late.
It goes on to list some things that Rise of Iron includes:
• New Story Campaign & Quests
• New Armor and Gear
• New Weapons
• New Raid
• Maximum Light Increase
• New Strike
• New Plaguelands Zone & Social Space
• New Crucible Mode & Maps
• New Enemy Faction and Bosses
Of course, Rise of Iron requires Destiny: The Taken King, and as of now 14GB of hard drive space. The expansion will be released on September 20th and interestingly enough has only been announced for PS4 and Xbox One.
Bungie will have the livestream revealing Rise of Iron tomorrow, and we’ll be hosting the livestream right here on the site.
Smith’s Sentiment: Really hyped for this. Wasn’t really expecting a new patrol zone (The Plaguelands) or social space for that matter, but that’s something that I’ll get just as excited about as a new raid. Of course new story, quests, armor, weapons, strikes, crucible maps are all to be expected. Interested in seeing what the new enemy faction is and just how “new” it is. If it’s just a new Fallen House, well then meh. Also really pumped to see what the new crucible mode is and hopefully it’ll be a 6v6 one (because that’s what I prefer).
I find it really interesting that there has been no mention of PS3 and Xbox 360 thus far. That indicates that Destiny is leaving behind the previous gen consoles earlier than most people expected, and could mean something good things for PS4/Xbox One owners (although it’s worth noting that limitations would still be in place because of Destiny’s code, and that won’t magically change just because an expansion skips previous gen systems).
I certainly hate it for Guardians on PS3 and Xbox 360 though.
We’ll have much more about Rise of Iron tomorrow.
