Tonight, NXT returns to the Barclays Center to Takeover Brooklyn again. It’s an absolutely stacked card and all three NXT titles will be on the line.
Last year saw the emotional moment where Bayley defeated Sasha Banks to win the NXT Women’s Championship. This year, Bayley looks to get her title back from Asuka. Will lightening strike twice for the most huggable superstar in the game?
Samoa Joe puts his NXT Championship on the line against Shinsuke Nakamura, and The Revival defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa.
The rest of the card is filled out by former TNA World Champions as Bobby Roode makes his in ring debut against Andrade “Cien” Almas while Austin Aries battles No Way Jose. Also, Ember Moon makes her debut taking on Billie Kay.
So now that we know the card, let’s get to the predictions for the huge Takeover Brooklyn II event.
Ember Moon vs. Billie Kay
Ember Moon makes her highly anticipated debut on a big stage, and she’ll definitely deliver. The former Athena did some great things on the Indy scene and in SHIMMER, but so did her opponent Billie Kay, the former Jessie McKay (also a SHIMMER vet).
There’s no doubt that Ember is going over her. It’s her debut, she’s a great talent, and they’re going to want to make her a big deal, which she should be. But, I also think Billie Kay is a great talent and deserves for this to be a real match and not just a showcase for Ember to come in and dominate.
Now NXT usually handles the women very well, so I’m really hoping that they allow these two women to put on a show.
This is actually one of the matches that I am most looking forward to, particularly because I was a big fan of both women when I saw them in SHIMMER and I’m excited to see them both get a match on a big stage like Takeover Brooklyn II.
Ember Moon wins it, but I really hope that it’s a back-and-forth match that allows Billie Kay to look good too. They both deserve the moment.
Winner: Ember Moon
No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries
I’m a big fan of Austin Aries, but I expect this to be the worst match of the night. Now sure, that doesn’t mean it’ll be a bad match (it won’t be), but regardless I just can’t get excited for this one and I can all the others.
No Way Jose just doesn’t work for me. I don’t like the gimmick, and I have yet to see anything from Jose that makes me appreciate his in-ring work even if I can’t stand the gimmick.
I don’t think it’s possible for Aries to have a bad match though, and in fact he’ll likely carry Jose to something quite good. But between this feud and the small one with Baron Corbin, I feel like NXT is missing the boat with Aries.
Hopefully this feud ends with this match, and Aries win, and he can move on to the better things that he deserves within NXT/WWE.
Winner: Austin Aries
Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Booby Roode
I know of Andrade’s success in his native Mexico as La Sombra, but I don’t think he has quite adapted to the WWE style from the luchador style. I think in time he’ll get there.
On the other hand, Bobby Roode is a star ready for either RAW or Smackdown (I’d prefer Smackdown). He’ll have a nice run in NXT, but he’s definitely not going to be there long. I’m excited to see his official debut.
This is going to be an interesting match up for sure. I don’t think Bobby can or should lose his debut, but I’d argue that Cien probably needs the win a little more. I don’t think he’ll get it, but the case can certainly be made.
Quality wise, I think the match will be pretty good. Not fantastic by any means, but good and better than the Aries/Jose match.
Winner: Bobby Roode
NXT Tag Team Championship Match:
The Revival (c) vs. Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa
The first of the three championship matches, and the first you’ll see me say this (but not the last)… I fully expect The Revival to drop the titles to Gargano and Ciampa and then transition over to Smackdown.
It won’t be Tuesday night, but a Revival loss to me signals they are main roster bound (which they are more than ready for).
Gargano and Ciampa have a lot of support, and deservedly so. They’ve been really good in both NXT and CWC. They’re ready to run with the titles and be the next “THE” tag team in NXT.
I’m a huge fan of The Revival and their old-school throwback style. They may be my favorite tag team in all of WWE right now.
I expect this match will be a show stealer, without question. Give these two teams 15 minutes, and we’ll have a classic tag team encounter on a night of should be classics. Really pumped for this match.
Winners and NEW Tag Team Champions: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa
NXT Women’s Championship Match:
Bayley vs. Asuka (c)
This could very well be the match of the night, which is saying something since the main event is most likely going to be stellar. Bayley is by far the most likeable person in wrestling, a natural babyface if ever there were one. Asuka is just a straight up badass in the division.
The first time these two ladies hooked up was a great match, but it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. This time I think they’ll go all out.
Ultimately, I think Bayley’s road to redemption and getting her title back will result in failure. I don’t see Bayley recapturing the title. And it’s largely for the same reason I see The Revival dropping their titles… Bayley is ready for the big time, and I think she’s heading to RAW soon.
She definitely deserves it, and a recent influx of talented women into the division means NXT can give up their biggest star, male or female, and still have a tremendous division.
I can’t wait for this one.
Winner and STILL NXT Women’s Champion: Asuka
NXT Championship Match:
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
The main event of Takeover Brooklyn II sees Samoa Joe put his NXT Championship on the line against Shinsuke Nakamura in a dream match up. It’s “the Samoan Submission Machine” against “the King of Strong Style.”
This one is likely to be a brutally stiff battle between two of the top wrestlers in the world. If you’re not insanely excited for this match up, well then you just aren’t a fan of great wrestling.
More than any other match on the card, this is the one I think is most unpredictable. Both guys are more than ready for the main roster, both guys deserve to be there now. I’d like to see Samoa Joe have a nice long reign. I’d like to see Nakamura have a nice run as champion too.
They can’t both win, and whoever loses is surely main roster bound fairly soon.
I’m going with Joe losing this one and moving to Smackdown within the next two months, but I also don’t think Nakamura will still be in NXT come WrestleMania time.
Regardless of who wins and who moves on, this one should be an instant classic.
Winner and NEW NXT Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura
