One year ago we heard official mention of a full Destiny sequel for the first time ever. It was expected for a 2017 release. Today, during their Q4 2016 Results conference, Activision confirmed that Destiny 2 (still not an official title) is still on track for a 2017 release. Here is what the slide says:
Full Destiny sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchise’s global reach, which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth.
There is no mention of the word “expected,” so it’s fully on track for a release this year.
UPDATE: During a Q&A during the call, it was confirmed that game will be out this Fall. The title has been updated to reflect that. Bungie promises a rich cinematic story with a character of memorable and relateable characters. They say current Destiny players will love the game, but it will also draw in new players who want a more casual first person action adventure without taking away what has made the game so played by the hardcore audience.
