Destiny 2

The first mission of Destiny 2 was shown off today during the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event. The mission, dubbed “Homecoming,” features guardians fighting alongside the Vanguard mentors in an unsuccessful attempt to defend the tower.

Here’s the synopsis of Destiny 2’s cinematic story:

Humanity has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Lord Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee their home. Players will venture out into our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, they must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.

The story is said to contain more missions and more cinematic than ever before. The cinematic story campaign can be played solo or cooperatively, and while playing through you’ll also be able to get distracted by exploring in Adventures, Patrols, Lost Sectors, Quests, and Public Events.

Here’s a screenshot gallery from the story:

The first Destiny 2 strike was also revealed, The Inverted Spire. This strike, still for three players, takes place on Nessus where the enemy Cabal have awoken something deep beneath the surface. Here are screenshots from The Inverted Spire:

And finally, here’s a few screenshots from some of the new gear players will be able to acquire:

Destiny 2 releases September 8th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can pre-order now for early beta access.
