Patriot’s Playing #2: Vikings Wolves of Midgard

March 16, 2017 // 0 Comments

Last week I was playing Far Cry Primal, and I did achieve the goal I set out to do and got the platinum trophy for it on Sunday. Really fun game, will probably have a review of it soon. This week I’m playing an unexpected game. I received a copy of Vikings: Wolves of Midgard from Kalypso to review, and so I’m working my way through that. Vikings launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 28th, and my review will go live on March 24th. This week’s Now Gaming will be fairly short because of that. I don’t want to say too much about the game. It’s a hack and slash, [...]

Patriot’s Playing #1: Far Cry Primal

March 6, 2017 // 0 Comments

Since Destiny launched in 2014 I’ve played relatively little of anything else. Certainly the number of games that I’ve actually beaten since then could probably be counted on one hand. With the news last week that only character appearances and class will carry over to Destiny 2, I’ve sort of been freed from the Destiny grind. By that I mean I just don’t feel the need to play it right now; I don’t need certain weapons with decent rolls and there’s no need to stockpile stuff. At over 2,500 hours, I think I’ve squeezed enough out of it (not that [...]

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Beta Impressions

September 4, 2011 // 0 Comments

I’ve played a few hours of the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations beta, and so now that I am comfortably with the game, it’s time for some QUICK beta impressions. Right off the bat, I’m not a huge fan of the new Contested Kill/Honorable Death bonus. This occurs when a pursuer goes to stun you but fails; they’ll still hit you before you kill them, and they’ll get an Honorable Death while it’ll come up that you got a Contested Kill. You get a hundred points for basically failing to successfully stun someone. It also knocks down the score of the person who got the Contested Kill down to [...]

Driver: San Francisco PS3 Demo Impressions

August 9, 2011 // 3 Comments

The demo for Driver: San Francisco hit PS3 and Xbox 360 today, and it’s packing three missions; two of which show off Tanner’s new “Shift” ability. After playing through each mission twice, here are my impressions of the Driver: San Francisco demo. The first mission listed is called Prove It, where you (as Tanner) have to Shift and take control of another driver and do a few stunts to try and convince your partner Tobias that you actually do have a power to enter other people’s bodies and take control. Before you get into the driving, you’re greeted with a [...]

Madden NFL 12 PS3 Demo Impressions

August 9, 2011 // 3 Comments

The Madden NFL 12 demo was released today on the Playstation Network and Xbox LIVE, and after playing a couple of games, I’m ready to give my Demo Impressions. To get right to the point, I like it a lot so far. I’ve been playing a ton of NCAA Football 12, and this game feels really good coming from that. It plays similar, but it also feels quite different. It really only took about a quarter to get the hang of everything that isn’t the same as the NCAA game (kicking, d-pad controls, etc.). Presenation is absolutely great in Madden 12; everything looks amazing. It’s a [...]

Catherine PS3 Demo Impressions

July 14, 2011 // 1 Comment

The demo for Catherine hit the Playstation Network and Xbox LIVE on Tuesday, and I found the time to tear myself away from NCAA Football 12 yesterday to try it out and went back to it a few minutes ago to give it another test spin. Now, I’m ready to give my impressions of the Catherine PS3 demo. Right off the bat, this was never a game that I intended on buying simply based off the videos. The demo did nothing to sway my opinion, if anything it actually reinforced it. This just isn’t a game for me and I don’t see it being successful at all in the United States. I’ll [...]

‘El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron’ PS3 Demo Impressions

July 7, 2011 // 3 Comments

What did I just play? In the literal sense, it was the demo of Ignition Entertainment’s El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, a Japanese action game. But past that, I don’t have a clue about what I played. I know I liked it though! Here’s what I know from simply playing the demo. You play as the biblical character Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. There’s some chick fallen angel named Ezekiel that’s watching you as you make your way through the Tower of Babel, presumably to slay Ezekiel. Honestly, there’s not much telling you whats going on in this [...]

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta Impressions

July 6, 2011 // 4 Comments

Since the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta is now open to everyone with a PSN account, and I’ve been playing it for over a week now, now is as good a time as any to post my Beta Impressions. I’ve hit level 28 or 29 at this point, and have really enjoyed my time with the beta. I prefer the co-op to the competitive, which is why I haven’t played that much of the beta since Monday when they switched out Co-op Arena with Co-op Hunter. Co-op Hunter is essentially a co-op/competitive hybrid that sees two human players versus two human players with AI teammates. The heroes have to [...]

NCAA Football 12 Demo Impressions

June 29, 2011 // 4 Comments

The NCAA Football 12 demo was released yesterday on Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network, and after playing about eight games I’m ready to give my Demo Impressions. A big deal has been made by the developers about the presentation of the game and how it’s the most realistic experience to date. After playing it, I definitely have to agree with that; the presentation is absolutely spot on and looks terrific. In the demo, there are two match ups: Oregon at Texas and Alabama at Florida State. The authentic entrances for the home teams of Texas and FSU are really quite stunning. The [...]

Outland PSN Impressions

June 18, 2011 // 2 Comments

Outland is a 2D platformer puzzle game that hit Xbox LIVE on April 27th, and the Playstation Network on June 14th (it was scheduled for an April 27th PSN launch as well, but the PSN outage prevented that from happening). It’s developed by Finnish studio Housemarque, who also developed two of the PSN Welcome Back games Super Stardust HD and Dead Nation, and published by Ubisoft. I’ve really enjoyed playing both Super Stardust HD and Dead Nation since getting them for free in the Welcome Back program, and that made me excited for Outland to hit PSN. I had already seen videos and [...]

Dungeon Siege III PS3 Demo Impressions

June 12, 2011 // 5 Comments

I checked out the PS3 demo for Dungeon Siege III today, and since it was a game that I had in my Amazon wishlist, I received some good news from playing the demo: it  just saved me $60. To be fair and honest, I’ve never played a Dungeon Siege game before. But, what I had read about this one made it seem like it would be a good RPG and I’m trying to get back into RPG games. So while I can’t compare this one to the previous Dungeon Siege games, which people apparently like, I can say that the demo is absolute crap and I hate almost everything about this game. Never has [...]
