Quick Daily Review #233: Road House (1989)

September 24, 2015 // 0 Comments

Road House (1989) Road House is one of the best lousy movies of all time. It can be enjoyed on many levels too, such as the “Plan 9 From Outer Space” laugh yourself silly at how lousy it is level, the standard “turn off your brain” action movie level, a time capsule of goofy 1980s clothing and hairstyles level, and even a pseudo philosophical level too! That’s more levels than they sell at your local hardware store. Anyway, the plot, for lack of a better term; The Double Deuce is the roughest, toughest, and ugliest bar in the entire southern United States. Hardly a night goes by [...]

Review: Sniper Elite – Nazi Zombie Army 1 and 2

November 3, 2013 // 2 Comments

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 1 and 2 (PC) Developer: Rebellion Publisher: Rebellion Genre(s): Third Person Shooter, Action Released: Part 1: February 28, 2013; Part 2 October 31, 2013 ESRB Rating: M – Mature If you look over my review of the original game these spins offs came from you can see that I thought very highly of it and even declared it my dark horse game of the year. Since that time the game has found itself the beneficiary of robust support for patches, additional features, and now two quality standalone DLCs. The support has been downright astonishing and has set an example [...]

Review: The Expendables 2

September 3, 2012 // 1 Comment

About this time a year ago I penned my review of the original Expendables movie. I am tempted to simply copy and paste it here while just adding a ‘two’ to the end of the title and maybe make some other slight changes and be done with it, but on second thought this movie does deserve a slightly more thorough job than the likes of that. And it’s not that the story, thin and paperlike as ever here is any better than that of the original movie, in fact you could argue the plot here is even simpler than that of the first. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. [...]

Review: Shooter

May 7, 2012 // 0 Comments

A former marine sniper, Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg) was living more of a solitary mountain life until he is visited by Colonel Isaac Johnson(Glover) who had received a threat on the President’s life. Reluctantly pressed back into service for his country, Swagger must figure out the assassin’s plan for attack and in which city it will occur. Trouble for Swagger is, he’s the fall guy for a coup to kill a visiting dignitary and he must now uncover who is behind the elaborate plot. Chaos and action ensue as Swagger always seems to stay one step ahead of the FBI and other law enforcement [...]

Review: King Arthur

May 3, 2012 // 0 Comments

Bob Longino of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution referred to this film as “…a really, really cheap knockoff of Gladiator.” I’m not usually one to agree with professional critics, but this is one of the exceptions to that rule, as this movie did have me thinking, “Damn, this is almost like Gladiator, only not as good.” The story centers around Arthur, who spends a whole five minutes (if that) in this movie as King Arthur, and his Knights of the Round Table, stationed in the British Isles. Arthur is actually a knight, as this was during his final pre-King days, and he and his men are [...]

Review: Sin City

May 3, 2012 // 1 Comment

I won’t lie, this is going to be a hard movie for me to review. Not just because it has been awhile since I last watched it, but also just because the way the movie is done. What we have here in Sin City, are three different stories surrounding three different main characters. One story is that of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), probably the only non-corrupted cop in the whole city, as he tries to protect Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba). Another story we have is perhaps the best of the whole movie, and that’s the story of Marv (Mickey Rourke). Marv is a complete badass, complete with a disgusting [...]

Asura’s Wrath Demo Impressions

February 13, 2012 // 0 Comments

The demo for Capcom’s upcoming action game Asura’s Wrath hit XBLA and PSN on January 10, but I’m just now getting around to it. Thus, here’s my delayed Demo Impressions. There are two parts to this demo, both parts of boss battles. You can play a portion of Episode 5 and a portion of Episode 11. These are titled episodes because, well, the game plays out like a television series where there’s a cliffhanger leading into the next episode. I’d imagine once you beat the game, you’ll be able to play any episode whenever you want, so this is a pretty cool [...]

Review: Faster

August 14, 2011 // 0 Comments

(Warning, contains slight spoilers) Ah, now this is more like it. For a while there I thought we’d lost you Dwayne. Don’t get me wrong, you were as likeable as ever in all those affable little kids movies like ‘Race to Witch Mountain’ and ‘The Tooth Fairy’, but it was beyond fine time that you returned to your bread and butter, that being a good nitty gritty hard boiled action flick. This last year we were blessed with two such outings from the former WWE superstar, both with similar titles; that being ‘Fast Five’ and ‘Faster’, the former of which I have yet to see [...]

‘El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron’ PS3 Demo Impressions

July 7, 2011 // 3 Comments

What did I just play? In the literal sense, it was the demo of Ignition Entertainment’s El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, a Japanese action game. But past that, I don’t have a clue about what I played. I know I liked it though! Here’s what I know from simply playing the demo. You play as the biblical character Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. There’s some chick fallen angel named Ezekiel that’s watching you as you make your way through the Tower of Babel, presumably to slay Ezekiel. Honestly, there’s not much telling you whats going on in this [...]
