Hey SJW’s, Please Stop Trying to Ruin Super Mario With Your Gender Politics Nonsense

December 22, 2016 // 1 Comment

While browsing the Internet yesterday I came across an article on Recode titled “It’s 2016, so why is Super Mario still rescuing a cake-baking princess?” The terrible article from a deluded Social Justice Warrior claimed that Princess Peach telling Mario she’ll bake a cake was “sexist.” And then followed it up with some nonsense about what women have done in the past 30 years: It has been 30 years since Mario first rescued the princess back in 1985. Since that time, more than 50 women have gone into space, more than two dozen have been elected to the U.S. [...]

Also out this week is Livelock and some big DLC in the form of Fallout 4's Nuka World and World of Warcraft: Legion. It's all inside in this week's installment of Gaming Vortex. [...]

New Game Releases for the Week of April 17th – 23rd

April 17, 2016 // 0 Comments

Don’t let the huge list that follows fool you, this is a fairly pedestrian, some would say terrible, week of game releases. I guess you could say it’s a sort of calm before the May storm. This week is dominated by indie games and arcade classics. If those are your thing, then you’re in luck. If not, well then there’s nothing for you this week. Wii U owners are the big winners this week I suppose, as Star Fox Zero releases on Friday. Here’s the full rundown of new games releasing this week: April 18th: Typefighters (PC) Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (PC) [...]

Review: Madden NFL 13

August 24, 2012 // 1 Comment

Madden NFL 13 (Xbox 360, Playstation 3 [Reviewed], PS Vita, Wii, Wii U) Developer: EA Tiburon Publisher: EA Sports Genre(s): Sports, Football, Released: August 28, 2012 ESRB Rating: E – Everyone It’s August, which means a new season of football is almost upon us, and it also means it’s time for a new edition of the yearly sports juggernaut Madden NFL. I had the pleasure of reviewing Madden 12, and enjoyed last years edition (my first NFL game in years) enough that I scored it a 9.0. Some folks disagreed with that score, in fact I apparently had an “incorrect [...]

Review: Darksiders II

August 19, 2012 // 11 Comments

Darksiders II (PC [Reviewed], Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U) Developer: Vigil Games Publisher: THQ Genre(s): Action-Adventure, RPG Released: August 14th (PC, PS3, X360), Late 2012 (Wii U) ESRB Rating: M – Mature This review is for the PC version of Darksiders II, and as such I’m going to spend the first portion of this review talking about the problems I’ve had with the PC version. Darksiders II was very obviously designed with a controller in mind; it’s not at all keyboard and mouse friendly. I don’t do a ton of PC gaming, especially new games, so I don’t [...]

Review: Donkey Kong Jr.

February 13, 2012 // 2 Comments

Donkey Kong Jr. (NES, Wii VC [Reviewed] Others) Developer: Nintendo Publisher: Nintendo Genre(s): Arcade, Platforming Released: Wii VC – December 4, 2006 ESRB Rating: E – Everyone Quick retro mini review. This is the NES version of Donkey Kong Jr. played on the Wii Virtual Console, it has a few differences between the arcade version. Donkey Kong Jr. is of course the sequel to the hugely popular (in the 80s) Donkey Kong arcade game. The roles are reversed this time though. You don’t play as Mario trying to rescue the Princess from Donkey Kong. Instead, you play as Donkey Kong [...]

Retro Mini Review: Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr.

May 29, 2011 // 2 Comments

Released in 1998, this is the only sports game (other than NCAA Football 2006) that has ever truly kept me coming back for more. How much more? Well, I played a full season every year until 2010…  twelve years.  So the answer to the question is, A LOT more. This incarnation of Griffey baseball wasn’t as wacky as the SNES games that carried his name, but the gameplay was as good as ever and it featured real baseball players and not simply made up guys. It featured a level of realism and ease of play, without taking itself overly serious and getting bogged down in unnecessary [...]
